Not exactly sure.
I lived in MN for 20 years and no ****, everyone I knew called it fair-ah-bolt.
I always said fair-bolt (grew up 2 miles from Minny border not far from Albert Lea) and was at a nieces dance recital and they announced it as fairbo and my sister from Austin said they get mad when you say it wrong. Said it’s a very uppity town.

Looking at new houses, I will wait for the bubble to crash.
A nationwide restriction in supply will help prices stay near where they are, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see a significant correction in the next 18 months. Some markets have gone up 15% annually for 10 years plus, no shot that is sustainable.

Luckily a lot of the mortgage changes would probably prevent an '08 like crash... but you're right I think something is coming.

I have known Fairibultians since 97 and have never heard the lt pronounced by anyone from MN.

Fair-eh-bo or Fairbo. And it isn't uppity unless you are from a real hick town.
Exactly. Is it uppity when people in Des Moines correct someone from out of state that pronounces it with an 'S' or both of them?

She wasn’t saying that the pronunciation was uppity that the people in gerneral were. I will tell her Austin MN people are hicks though.

We're looking in the Twin Cities and we drove up there every weekend for six weekends looking at houses.

After 50+ showings and six rejected offers, we scored a house for 2.9% over asking. Most houses we lost out on went for 6-10% over asking. The worst was a $485k listing that went for $565k. That's 16.5% over listing.

Did you keep the search to the Edina/Wayzata/SLP area?

I'm curious if the market is the same a little further out like Rogers, Otsego, St Michael, Prior Lake, Delano, etc. I've been watching things on realtor.com for a few months now and it appears to be very, very fast moving.

What about realtors? The last move we made, we contacted a realtor that did nothing for two weeks. So we did some checking around and went with one of the top realtors in town. She had a good idea of what homes might possibly be for sale, what homes were coming on the market, etc. We found out there's a whole networking thing that happens behind the scenes. It's how we found the home we're currently in - we looked at it and put in an offer before it was listed.

We still haven't decided on an exact location (looking at anything from Rogers/Otsego/St Michael/Dayton, Rockford, Delano, even Prior Lake) or when we're going to do this yet, but pretty certain we will move up there - possibly this summer/fall. If not, we'll wait until next spring.

No. The closest we got on your list was Prior Lake where MI Homes and Lennar are building new developments, but we decided against it. We wanted to be as close in as possible so Rogers and Otsego were never considerations.

If a new job doesn't work out we felt being closer in had more advantages for finding a new job that being further out of town.
As cities go commuting in the Twin Cities is pretty easy. It is nothing like Chicago if you want to talk about another Upper Midwestern city. I live in Brooklyn Park - practically Osseo and my commute to downtown Minneapolis is pretty consistently right around half an hour. Generally if you can be somewhere where you don't have to cross a river on your commute you are in pretty good shape. If you have to cross the Minnesota or Mississippi all bets are off.

The one thing I hadn't learned yet when we were buying was to avoid being west of your work if you work days. Living west ensures you are driving into the sun both ways on your commute. Luckily I am more north than west. Not that that is an issue in the winter. :p :(

I understand the thought with a new job and wanting more opportunities closer.

We looked at some of the Lennar homes in Delano, but found out some options were pretty limited. Mainly expanding garage size, insulating the garage, etc. We were surprised - why wouldn't you insulate a garage when building a home in Minnesota? I haven't contacted MI Homes or other builders yet to see how flexible they are with some changes. We're completely aware that altering plans will increase/change costs.

We just moved back to central Iowa after 5 years in Shakopee, MN. Our house up there was nothing special, but was in the “starter home” category for that market. Sold at slightly over list in less than 48 hours with multiple offers. That was back in September last year. Feel free to PM me with any questions about the area if I can help.

The river issue is why we did not look more seriously in Shakopee. Coworkers said prepandemic the commute could be an hour in bad traffic days.

My new commute is under 10 minutes and my wife's will probably be similar. We absolutely paid more for less house based on the location.

This is quite true for 169. 169 crossing the River morning/evening is a log jam. Basically a crawl for 5-10 miles. I lived in Shakopee and worked in Burnsville. Never had to cross the River and was going opposite rush hour. My commute was 18 minutes.

That being said, crossing the River at 101 right there is Shakopee is wide open most days. Depending on where you go from there, it can be pretty easy. I worked in Golden Valley for a while and my commute was 35-45 minutes assuming no rain or snow.

The commute thing can be interesting. We lived in White Bear Lake in the late 80's and I worked downtown St Paul. If I left work immediately at 5:01, my commute took about 15 minutes. If I didn't get out of there until 5:15, it took 30-45 minutes.

my realtor keeps holding out hope pre-listings will pop up for us. That would be the ideal way to get into a home imo.
