Des Moines, Ia.
Stopped by the desk of a coworker today, He’s a big Hawk fan who likes to talk a little smack, and he and I have had a friendly rivalry.

“Looks like it should be a great Iowa-Iowa State game next fall,” I opened conversationally.

“Yeah, we’ll see if Montgomery and Butler come back,” he answered with a smile.

“Oh, if those two come back, you guys don’t stand a chance.”

I turned and strolled away. Simple truth.

Well, I should have an advantage with a lot more game reps against better competition than us by the time we kick off. We have a bye week the week before we play them. They play tow d1 teams to help them sharpen up, we play one lower division team. Game reps really matter especially early in the season, we saw that last year. So on paper is appears they will be the team that is more game ready.

I’m actually most stoked for our d line plus sophomore Rose at MLB

Eisworth is a baller.

Beating Iowa would be nice but since they didn't let HB and DM do much this year I'm not sure why they would be the difference maker.

It won’t be easy. They will be solid next year. If OL doesn’t show improvement, I’d expect another L.

Don't know if the the OL will be great, but hard to imagine them not being better at the beginning of the year. They were a train wreck against Iowa last year. That along with DM being hurt really limited what ISU could do offensively. It will be a completely different team in Ames next year when Iowa comes to visit. Hard to tell if it will be enough to beat them at this point, but I do like the talent the Clones have back.

I just looked at that.

How the Hell do we end up with a bye on the 2nd week of the season?

Most states with two or more power 5 conference teams have their "rivalry" games near the end of the season. I know that won't happen--separate conferences and other reasons--with I-State vs Iowa, but watching them play when (in theory) they're both hitting their strides would be a nice change.

Happened in 2001. ISU won. Iowa fans hated it.

If Montgomery and Butler are back, CMC is going to run a train on the TOE.

It looks like we have 2 byes, but yes, that is just stupid to have one that early.

If we win, you know Iowa fans will say it was because we had 2 weeks to prepare for them.

of course you would

ToE could be limited to 2 players and you would expect a loss

This is the first time we will go into the game under CMC with an advantage at QB and we will have the better Def. Game is in Ames.

ISU will be favored by 3-4 going into the game, wins by 2 scores.

I want to beat Iowa only because it's another W on our schedule, but that's it. I don't really care about having bragging rights about one game.

Iowa beat us this year, but we ended up the regular season ranked and they didn't. That's all that matters to me.

Just like in basketball, they got us this year with two of our starters out and them playing an injured guy that was supposedly out for the year. Good for them! I don't care. What matters is where you end up at the end of the year, and I think we'll come out ahead once again in that.

Iowa and Ksu are a lot alike, for obvious reasons. Almost never get blown out, almost always cover the spread. Teams like these are hard for teams like the cyclones to beat. They always give themselves a chance, be it by talent, coaching, or a fluke play that leads to points. I predict the toe game next year will be somewhat like the ksu game this year, but with toe not getting as big of a lead.
