That is concerning, having your knee drained is not exactly an injury you just shake off as a minor thing that is infection or inflammation. Just like Suzuki having to sit out again for his wrist injury I hope they aren't pressing these guys to return sooner than they need to. Would rather do an IL stint now and get them right than have these kind of injuries be a nagging thing that eventually catches up to them over the course of a long season and affects their production later in the season. We have guys hitting well in Iowa right now we would be fine offensively without Suzuki. Pressly has been good his last few outings but early on was a little shaky but I think they have enough arms to get through an IL stint if he needs to heal that knee properly.

The Ricketts and Hoyer are going to have to crap or get off the pot here this summer if this team keeps up at the pace it is right now. The offense at this moment is good enough that another top end starting pitcher and a couple quality bullpen arms would make this a team that could make a run in the playoffs. Also need to get serious about extending or resigning Tucker and if they can extend PCA even better but there is not rush there if a deal can't be made because he has several years of team control left they can just go through arbitration with him.

If this team far exceeds the expectations coming into the season the bad part of that is Hoyer likely gets an extension. I don't know what to think about that because he's made so many bad decisions the past few years I would rather move on from him and Hawkins regardless how this season turns out.

Even that mess of an inning in SD that got away from hodge, he threw a lot of good pitches and there were a couple of errors I think....I'm cautiously optimistic on him
I think 3 of the earned runs were when Roberts gave up the grand slam. Still charged to Hodge though since he put them on base.

Overall good stuff with the Cubs, happy in general with the results and very happy our time in the NL West is finally ending. Weird schedule. My remaining issues as of this week?

Cubs still need to figure out 3B, it's become a huge problem. Not a single guy is giving us anything there. Negative WAR is not a good thing, mkay?

Assad sore also a problem; Cubs might need another SP if the I-Cubs guys aren't going to help any. Wicks and Little were awful.

Jettisoning Workman was a good thing; next up, Turner please. He's offered nothing and is totally cooked. Hosmer 2.0. Why does Jed insist on these experiments with washed-up vets every year?

Finally, Swanson is just so bad at the plate, at least move him down the lineup. A bat that limp hitting 5th every day is an embarassment. 8 or 9.

They wanted PCA to prove that he deserved the lead off spot. He’s getting close by me. I’d bat PCA first , Happ, fifth and drop Swanson to seventh.
that would provide on base disruption before and protection after the heart of the line up.

Watching Turner try and catch up to a fastball is just sad. He's not even close. His first AB yesterday the Dodger pitcher was just throwing fastballs right over the middle of the plate knowing he couldn't get the bat around fast enough.

They mentioned it last night, but Dansby has had some tough luck. He's hitting the ball pretty hard. I think they said he has the largest gap in baseball in expected batting average vs. actual batting average.

Swanson needs to do some situational hitting. He had so many unproductive outs this year. At least move the runners or make contact when there is a runner on 3rd base with less than 2 out

And now that the game is over, worth posting

Cubs have had the most difficult schedule in the league.

Starting tomorrow, they have, by far, the easiest SOS.

Do your job and we’re playing meaningful baseball in October.
Yeah, I saw some interesting things about it so far this year.

Cubs have gone 13-10 against winning teams thus far this season. They are 3-0 against the rest of their schedule. 23 games against winning teams outpaces everyone with the Athletics second in games against winning teams at 18 (6-12). Cubs 13 wins against winning teams edges SF (12) but to be fair the Giants did it in just 16 games.

Cubs with the 5th best record in the NL. They also have the 5th best record in all of MLB.

That’s unfortunate but I think Rea can fill that long relief/ spot starter role that Assad excelled in prior to being forced into the rotation. Of course this assumes we actually do get another frontline starter.

Good to see Seya back in the lineup
Agree. I don’t think Rea is that bad at all.

Plus Horton went 5 scoreless with 5 Ks and more importantly only one walk on the 23rd. They are keeping his innings down. I think we’re going to see him in May. JD mentioned they shuffled to rotation recently to manage Brown’s innings. Wouldn’t be surprised if they use Brown in relief a bit after they call up Cade to have both of them available down the stretch.
