So, I thought Blum referenced an injury to one of the freshman, but he made it sound like they would be ready to go in plenty of time for the season.

A Williams injury is news to me.

Only thing I can find for that, he had wrist & groin injuries last season, I haven't heard anything post-portal/signing.

Toure injured his knee at the end of the season and was held out of the televised games that many on here tried to watch. Not sure there was any indication of how serious. No news in that scenario is hopefully good news.

Williams got injured, unknown when he will be back (there isn’t a lot of information out there about it).

Anyone criticizing the Nelson signing is completely out of touch with the realities of college basketball. Given that it looked like we didn’t have much of anything left to bring another veteran player in and the injury to the only transfer guard we had coming in, signing Nelson at this stage is a home run.

People think we need shooting but we really need a slasher. This guy is perfect for what we need. We have Milan, Heise,Tamin and Jefferson(he’ll be mid 30s) and Bateman.
Yeah you can never have enough shooting but we also need a guy who can penetrate and finish at the rim or get fouled. Someone to help stop the other team from going on big runs when jump shots aren't falling.

Way up there

Nelson is a great fit for what we needed, especially if Williams isn't ready to go. He's also a really good signing for the future. I know we can't take anyone for granted but him having multiple years of eligibility is really nice. It would be a good situation for us (and him really) going into to '26 to have him returning after losing so much senior production.

What we really need is that between Nelson, Williams, Toure, Pleta and Batemon, two of them can be starters for '26. Then you could return those two, Milan and Buchanan. That would be a solid core around some good freshmen and a couple good portal adds. I think that's our recipe going forward. Try to bring back 4 or 5 guys, bring in 3 or 4 freshmen, 3 or 4 portal kids and hope 3 or 4 of the new guys can stick.

It is too late for such things to occur. Signed Senior Georges Niang.
George was a good three point shooter right out of high school actually.

But you missed the point. It’s kinda silly how often fans expect a kid to make a big leap in three point shooting from season to season. They have been shooting non stop since they were kids by the time they reach college. It’s not typical to see kids suddenly become jump shooters late in their college career.

Stranger things have happened. Nate Heise was shooting in the low 20's and then shot over 50% for the rest of the season from 3 just this past year. Tamin went from mid 20's to near 40% in an off season. People like Kemba Walker and Jason Kidd come to mind. Jamaal Tinsley went from 24% in his 1st year at ISU to 38% in his 2nd. Shooting is absolutely something that can be practiced and learned. It doesn't happen for everyone and there is a ton of work required.
As far as his body, ISU does a pretty phenomenal job on this front. He may still be wiry, but I would expect him to be in the best shape of his life after they are done with him.
Heise was a good three point shooter at UNI. He started slowly last year then his shooting percentage increased towards his norm as he picked it up later in the year. You are talking about something entirely different there.

Of course it can happen. It’s just not normal progression like alot of fans think. Tamin is referenced often because he’s the exception to the rule. And that was after ifis first year of school, not his third. Thats the biggest jumps typically occur. You went back 25 more years do find Tinsley because it’s the exception.

Nelson will be a slasher and tough perimeter defender. That’s why we recruited him. Not because the staff is going to bulk him up into a muscleman three point sniper in the offseason.

Many want to change this guy because of his lack of consistency from range. But I think we should trust that the staff saw what They wanted. Besides being a CPOY naturally makes him the focus of their opponent and draws their strongest defender. I’m guessing that no longer being the case will likely increase his percentages as he will not be forcing the issue being surrounded by teammates that are just as talented.

I wouldn't say really really but it would certainly help. You have to hope Heise can continue shooting well, Jefferson can develop that a little more and Milan becomes a bit more consistent but that's quite a bit of shooting along with Tamin and potentially Batemon. Not going to be elite there but should hopefully be serviceaable. Idk what Nelsons passing is like but if you surround him with 3 shooters and have Buchanan ready for lobs at the rim that could be a good combo. I'm hoping Buchanan and Mulder are a little springy-er than our bigs this year. The lob game was lacking. Could be a good weapon for us
