Trying to navigate anxiety with my 11 year old daughter right now. Just when we figured out her night terrors with limiting screen time before bedtime by having no screen time after 6:30 she recently started having panic attacks at random times to the point she will hyperventilate. She doesn't know what triggers the panic attacks. Have even had it happen in situations where she was having fun. Trying to get her some counseling but finding most places have waiting lists.
Man, sorry to hear that. Having anxiety is tough, but having one of your kids go through it is a nightmare. My oldest has been dealing with it for the last couple of years, as well as having a headache nearly every day (he has a small cyst on his brain). He went to counseling and it did help a bit. Hopefully your family can get some answers on what is triggering your daughter's anxiety.

First off, sorry to hear about your predicament.

I believe anxiety meds can take quite a while for them to work as intended.

As for vomiting, I had issues, and it turned out I had developed acid reflux which was causing it.

After confirming with an endoscopy, prescription medicine helped big time.

I have a friend, female, young 20s, and it sounds like she is battling something very similar to what you are facing.

They are still trying to figure out best treatment and lifestyle adjustments for her.

I hope you find help, but I love that you asked for help. That's awesome. There should be no stigma around mental issues.
My stomach pains could be acid reflux, but I'm guessing not. But I am not a doctor, of course... The meds didn't help at first but seem to be helping now. It's so weird how the anxiety can come and go. I was having it when I created this thread, and now I feel way better.

Have you tried box breathing?

Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds...
Hold it for 4 seconds...
Exhale through your mouth for 8 seconds...
Hold it for 4 seconds...
Then repeat.

I do deal with anxiety and while this is by no means a silver bullet it definitely does help bring me down in the short term.
I do something similar and it helps a lot, but not always. Thank you, man, I'll try box breathing.

If any of you deal with anxiety, what are some good ways to handle it? I have had it a bit in the past, but for the last couple of months it has gotten out of hand, probably due to some stomach issues I have been dealing with, which the doctors have not figured out yet. The anxiety gets so bad that sometimes I vomit a lot and often times I have a difficult time catching my breath. I started taking anxiety meds and they seem to be working pretty well, but not always.

Thanks in advance for any replies.
Stomach issues are a tough combination with anxiety, because one begets the other in your mind. I'll echo the meditation and exercise comments as both help a lot.

Stress also plays a big part in both the stomach pains and the anxiety. I have been under a lot of stress the last couple years - work, having to get a 2nd job to pay the bills (I haven't been able to do that 2nd job lately because of the medical issues), having a wife that lives on the other side of the world and the visa process taking forever - it all adds up.

Just wanted to say thank you again fellow Cyclone fanatics. Reading all of the comments has been insightful.

As someone with long, long time stomach issues, I'd highly recommend PepZin GI. It is a form of zinc, and it's supposed to help repair your stomach lining, and I started taking it a month ago when my stomach was way worse than normal. Not only did it level that out, I have been able to cut my acid blocker in half.

Thank you very much! Is that over the counter?

Go to sleep tonight knowing you did the best you could today.

Wake up tomorrow and feel blessed you have another day ahead for you.

Every morning, when you wake up make it the best day you can.

Rinse and repeat every day. The past is gone.

The future is forever.

I am trying to learn what triggers it and have been taking notes. At times I can control it through breathing exercises, but other times it gets bad. Most of it is fear that the stomach pains could be something serious.

Thank you for the reply.
About to head to bed, but take a look at anticipatory anxiety. Sometimes anxiety manifests as anticipation of anxiety, as crazy as that sounds. Even if you don't get the answers you need from this thread, the fact that you're looking for answers is a huge win on its own.

I definitely do get anticipatory anxiety at times. Thank you once again.

I deal with it a lot. I used to self medicate with alcohol which led to even more problems. These days the best thing I do for it is exercise. I'm not sure there is anything better than that. I usually keep a few Xanax around just in case I have a bad attack but it's rare these days. I think it's best to try to deal with it naturally in some way without having to use benzo's, but if you need to take one as needed occasionally I see nothing wrong with keeping a few around. Just remember you're not alone and millions of us suffer from it. I had an attack about 5 years ago that was so severe I didn't even recognize it as anxiety, I had my gf take me to the ER. I can't even explain how terrifying it was. I was literally gasping for air and it felt like I was suffocating. I'm still not sure to this day what triggered it. I feel like historically mine are usually about anticipation of some social event.

I use to not even get triggers for my anxiety. They would just randomly come on and I’d get light headed and start hyperventilating and body shakes. My anxiety is very much genetic as my dad has it bad too. I’ve tried coping mechanisms but medication was the only way I could get it mostly under control and I’m okay with that.

It’s a chemical imbalance in the brain. It’s normal and sometimes if it’s bad enough medicine is almost the only way to go to live a normal life again.

I feel like the ones I've had the last few years(which have been minor) haven't had any triggers which kind of worries me that a larger problem may be in the horizon again. Mine is also genetic through my mother's side of the family. My sister has had more problems than I have with the issue. Sometimes medication is the only thing that works. I'm 100% in agreement that sometimes the only thing that helps is benzo's. I used to take Klonopin by prescription years ago.

I was just working and started having palpitations and kinda blacked out for a second, plus shortness of breath, so I drove to the ER again. This sucks!
Mine that I get are similar. It sucks and it's terrifying. The massive one I had a few years ago was like something Ive never experienced before. I didn't even recognize it as an anxiety attack. It came out of nowhere and can't even really explain it. I felt like I was smothering. Thankfully I was at home. I even remember thinking that if I had a gun I would have put myself out of my own misery. Most horrific thing I've ever been through. I mean I was crawling around on the floor trying to get air. I've also found that infused weed and certain strands make my anxiety worse so I don't really smoke like I used to.
