It's definitely not just you. It's been a thing with all of TJ's teams where no lead is safe. They really struggle to keep a lead after building it and it makes the games stressful as a fan even when we end up winning comfortably. I think it's from the bouts of going 5+ minutes without making a field goal, which we seem to do a lot.

Like in the Auburn game, lots of fans were seemingly so pleased when we only lost by two on a tip-in. I was seething! We led that game by 18 points and had a 15-point lead in the second half. "Auburn is really good!" Well what are we?

I don't watch enough of other teams to know if it's normal or something unique to us.

Big leads going away over a 2nd half's time are pretty normal. Happened a few times just yesterday.

I'd disagree that TJ's teams have been prone to make ends of games stressful. They're generally good at closing things out. I did think for a sec they could lose last night with how several possessions were going.

Fred's teams left a lot to ve desired at the ends of gsmes and with Steve iirc you could tell the loss was coming with about 4 minutes left.

Not really, but it’s ramped up for basketball. Like imagine wanting to dunk on fans 5 mins after a big win…why. But it happens for football too.

Apparently fans need to only discuss what he thinks we should discuss (good god, don’t bring up Watson’s minutes or TJ’s struggles in February). Add in the overreacting to a few fan comments and then applying those few comments to the entire fan base…something is super odd.

Anyway, outside of our normal 5-10 min lull, that’s a grown up win. Still some to clean up and if this team can put together a full, or nearly full, game - we’ll all be super happy this March.

Fans can definitely be idiots, but that's part of the deal with sports, to a degree (anything way out of line should be called out).

Chris admitted himself when TJ was hired that he wouldn't be able to objectively cover MBB due to their friendship. We're seeing this play out any time the coaches get even the mildest criticism.

Just odd given that TJ has been successful and the fans are still almost entirely on board.

I post a lot of stupid **** so I lose track. Show me where I predicted we were going to lose.

You thought we were going to lose to both South Dakota State and then Washington State in the tournament last season. You kept on posting drivel like "I've got a bad feeling...." before those games.

And no; I'm not going to take the time to try and find posts from almost a year ago to show the receipts, but I wouldn't get on your case about this stuff if I didn't remember the level of silly that you brought out last year. As you yourself just wrote, you post a lot of stupid crap.

Nah.

WVU is actually a Q1 loss.

They could be “bad” in the sense of the way we played.

OK St - Q2

K-State Q3 (bad)
Agree, the quality of play made each seem worse than the metrics (or appeared "addictive" to any negative metric).

KSU loss almost has a "triple bad" feel to it, being a Q3 loss (that also came at home), a blowout and few fans could've seen it coming.

WVU loss is worse now than at the time, but when it occurred, my thought was, "I figured a game like that was coming at some point."

And yet, so many times, someone else (JJ) is bringing the ball down the court. *sigh*
Yeah that part's weird. Along with JJ, Keshon and Curtis have been bringing the ball up a lot more this year, at least that is my perception.

Big leads blown happens all the time. The 3-point line has made it much easier to get back into a game. The trick is to ward off the run and hold on for the win. The Cyclones have done that a few times this season, last night being just the most recent example. Final spread of 17 is great. Having a team full of solid FT shooters is critical in those situations.

Looking at the stats, I'm surprised Jefferson only had 2 TOs. At times, he seems oblivious to any help defender as he tries to back down a defender. To the point where it feels like initiating offense with him is as frustrating as with Gilbert.

Gilbert has been dribbling it into the paint, getting swarmed by defenders and then picking the ball up with no where to go. He's not tall enough or explosive enough to go straight up with it. So he tries to thread the needle with a pass or tries an acrobatic shot. I think the B12 refs have decided in the last month to not bail him out with a foul call even though he has gotten fouled numerous times. He needs to start shooting his floater again (before the defense collapses) as that will open things up. Much better for him to miss a floater than turn it over.

I suggest taking some load off Tamin helps him over the course of the season.

Also, having a big, like Jefferson (and Niang), able to bring the ball up, is an advantage. Yes, I know he had the ball taken from him last night. It happens. He, like the rest of the 8 who play, is loose with the ball a little too often.

There are definitely “hyperbole” fans and we see them in every game thread. “This team won’t win another game!” types. But I’d say 95% of fans, outside of some emotions during games, are discussing this team in a reasonable and realistic way.

It’s okay to discuss why TJs teams struggle in February. Or why Watson gets no minutes when he performs adequately when asked. Or wondering why this team turns it over so much.

When you only listen to the loudest, angriest in any industry - it’s a choice to amplify those voices and not the rational and reasonable fans. A poor choice, in my opinion, but a choice nonetheless.

It can be somewhat normal in some of the other games I have watched. NBA too. I think it’s just human nature to let up a little with a big lead, especially if the opponent doesn’t just roll over. It also makes fans more nervous because nothing is more frustrating than blowing big leads. Just my two cents

Nah, they are bad. Very bad. We played like absolute dogsh*t in those games.

Fans white knighting all week against literally any “perceived” negative take/reaction/opinion, any semblance of criticism or frustration, etc. has been sort of fascinating to follow on these boards.

“But! But! The quad system!” :D

I promise, Coach, it’s fine bud! I promise, the coaches and players are focused on their stuff and not worried about our fans being normal fans that are correctly acknowledging/discussing their favorite team that has factually sustained some really bad losses (and poor play) since mid-January. Games that - even with injuries - it had no business losing, and will pay the price on the seed like for doing so.

Can the team still make a deep run despite these games where they’ve played horribly? Yep! Last night was a great start to March. LFG!
