RIP my lawn that's already on life support

I have picked a great summer for having new concrete and retaining walls. The ground is hard, the grass is dead. Soil moves easily. Reseed, cover with clippings the last week of August and water water water. Dry is good for my situation. I have a tree trimmed a year ago when the frost was going out of the ground. Permanent ruts that are now being fixed. The dirt here in my town works easily, like sand. Very very dry. It was this dry in 1990 or, I remember I certified 93 bushels an acre. Had it insured for 90. Man the way corn has changed in 30 years.

My understanding was a brown lawn equals dormant and when it starts to turn closer to white it's in danger of actually dying, or at least serious damage. Is that accurate?

Because I'm well into brown, careening quickly toward white.

Not an expert, but I think you are correct. More of a golden brown is ok, but after 2-3 weeks and starts to change to gray/white it may not recover with rain.

Have to attend an outdoor wedding at 4pm on Saturday when the heat index is forecasted to be 109.....and wear a face mask. This is not going to end well.
