For me it's Popeyes and it has nothing to do with food, just a bad experience that wasn't due to the wait staff. When I was in college, I went to Chicago for a semester and one day I decide to try Popeyes since I have never tried it before, and I do like fried chicken.

The Popeyes location I go to is downtown, and thing about downtown Chicago is there is a noticeable homeless population. Not too sound callous, but you eventually ignore the homeless asking for money when walking around. Well anyway I go to Popeyes which is in a food court like area, and I'm looking over the menu on what to get when I am approached by a homeless gentlemen.

The gentleman asked me if I could get him some chicken, and I said sure thinking I would just give him a piece off of my plate. However he wanted me to purchase him a couple of pieces of chicken which I ended up doing. So our food comes, I give him his food and he leaves. I go to sit down to start eating my food.

While I'm eating, another homeless guy comes up to me and ask he for some chicken. At that point, a police officer comes up to us and yells at the homeless guy, "I thought I told you not to come in here again." To which the officer escorts the guy out of the food court area. I ate my food quickly and got the out of there. I haven't been back to Popeyes since.

Canal Street?

Thinking about this, I'm not sure where I fully avoid, but individual restaurants it is usually either: 1)really bad service or 2) illness inducing food.

I do try to avoid Taco John's in general because it tastes like they infused their low quality ingredients with a salt lick.

Finally thought of one, I'm not sure why but I really dislike Johnny's Steakhouse. I'm not really a big steak guy to begin with but went a couple times and was not impressed.

There's this Mexican restaurant in Janesville (WI) that I like but I hate going to because the service sucks. Food is good though. Before you get your food, the server always comes around and asks if you need more to drink or more chips and salsa. After you get your food, you have to send out a search party to find your server. I've been there when it's not crowded, same deal.

Chili's in Clive, because of the service my family received. We ordered a grilled cheese for my two year old daughter and when it came out, the showing side of the sandwich looked great. However, when she picked it up to eat it, it was burnt black on the other side. So I ask the waitress to take it back and bring another one out. She told me, and I quote, "she's young enough, it won't bother her" and immediately left our table. We, in turn, immediately left the restaurant, never to rerurn.

I don't necessarily agree with Chick-fil-A's politics, but that's their right. I've also ready stories about them doing cool things for Vets which makes me respect them.

Food wise, I find it very bland. Much rather get a chicken sandwich from Wendys

They gave out free chicken sandwiches to those donating blood after Pulse in Orlando. On a Sunday too.

Wendy's before McDonald's any day, but Chick Fil A above all else for a chicken sandwich. They are actually the cheapest around, well cheaper than Culver's at least for a chicken sandwich, fries, and a drink. Under $7 at CFA and that's including Rockford, IL 9% sales tax.

I'll go with Chipotle. I was in school when the Ames location opened, and had friends from MN pushing it on us with quite a bit of arrogance towards Pancheros. Which was really more baffling than anything else.

Once I found out about their political stuff (I'm not an ag guy but still found it asinine), it just made it easier. Panch is better anyway.

Now I want Panch. Damn this thread.

As someone who's been in food service distribution for a long time:

Cheesecake Factory- it's literaly just microwaved slop on a plate. They microwave pretty much everything but their frozen cheesecakes

Chipotle- the organic claims are garbage, but its one of the cleanest best run fast food places I've ever seen. I eat there regularly

Mexican restaurants- almost all of them are a buffet with either a pizza oven or microwaves to heat the food up, very few don't recycle food cooked from the day before. Don't eat lunch at them, that food was cooked yesterday. Even fajitas are regularly precooked and dropped on a scalding hot pan to heat up. By dinner service they should be running on "fresh" product

Chinese takeout or buffets- 1 in 10 are well run, the other 9 do unspeakable things that make me wonder how easy it is to pay off food safety inspectors.

Pro tip: if you order veal, like a veal parm thats breaded, it's usually pork tenderloin. I love pork tenderloin, but Im not paying 3x as much for someone to call it veal parm.

Another vote here for both Applebee's and Subway being garbage.

I can't remember the exact location, but after doing some research that would make the most sense.

I used to eat there at lunch most days when I interned downtown a long time ago. Of course I ate at McDonald's, which I wouldn't very much now. Makes sense for the location.

my local mcdonalds routinely forgets to put meat on the burgers....no joke. The burger king, if you show up after 8, its at least a 10 minute wait for anything even just one dollar chicken sandwich. They usually try talking you out of ordering by saying, that will be a 10 minute wait are you sure you want to order it? Subway is really the only option if needing quick.
