Part of me hopes they do it just because it’s a hilarious misread of what your customers want.
I’m sure they’re deluded into thinking people just want to watch “great football” and they can manufacture whatever they need to in terms of narratives to keep people interested. KC was an obscure franchise but add a bit of QB talent, an oaf like Kelce, and Taylor Swift and before you know it everybody is watching them love them or love to hate them it prints money Vegas here we go!
The problem is college football is not “great” football. The level of play is so much higher in the NFL it is almost comical. Watching the less than optimal college play is part of the charm. And I’m never going to care which pop star some SEC QB is dating. I want my Cyclones and their peers and don’t care about anybody else.
I already skipped the playoff one year after Arizona State went out. I’ll do it again.
