Looking for computer peripheral hardware advice/suggestions.

For background:
I have a desktop that is a few years old. It had a complete cleanup by the geek squad a few months ago. Newish Microsoft ergo keyboard (wired). Bought a wireless mouse at the same time.

The problem:
A couple of weeks ago, my mouse started acting up, mostly with scrolling functions. It's random. I can scroll up the page, but I cannot scroll down to read the next part of the page. I'm stuck pulling down the tab on the scroll bar over on the side of my screen. Annoying as all get out.

Things I've tried:
Unplugging and replugging in the mouse HDMI connector.
Stopping & restarting the computer.
Uploading any outstanding computer updates.
Replacing the battery in the mouse.
Cleaning cat hair out of the mouse.
Buying a new wireless mouse (which not only didn't fix the scroll issue, it exacerbated it. The new mouse didn't scroll either direction)

Does anyone have any suggestions for what might be the matter, or for what other "fixes" I can try?

Is it possible that you have added some other wireless device that could be interfering with the signal between the mouse and the dongle?

Not quite sure how to respond to this. Just drifting different directions?
Seems like direcetions are diverging. Tend to disagree a lot more. Less understanding of each other. Wife has a great heart but can be vicious at times. I can be a bit of a PIA. Daughter moved back in with us awhile back. Think maybe we just need a nice vacation.

Take a nice trip that you can enjoy together. See what happens.

I hope you are able to reconnect. 36 years is a lot of time to lose. :(

Thanks, Think we need that.

It's just difficult to get away with our dog Buster. Buster is 9 with cushing's disease, diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts and has gone blind. He gets meds 3 times a day and needs to go out 4 times a day. He is protective of his space and won't let strangers in the house. Could take him with us but think that would be very stressful for him.

Can the daughter take care of him?

Technically yes. He is ok with her in the house. Side note. She drove to KC to pick him and his brother up for us to foster when he was about 6 weeks old. If it wasn't for her he would not be in our lives. I am tightly bonded with Buster. He got me through a rather tough period back in 2017.

However, she works 2 jobs and has medical conditions of her own. Think it would be too much for her to provide the attention he needs over the course of a day.
