Hoping he can be a backup to Tamin?
Ya'll are going to hate me for this comment but the hope is he can come in and push Tamin to a decreased role. Think Monte Morris freshmen year (Toure is a different player obviously) or Haliburton. The hope is that he shows he can be that Jamal Shead, Marquise Nowell and be an alpha to the point where Tamin plays 20 minutes a night and doesn't have to carry any of the load offensively.

Obviously, that is not the expectation, nor do I think that will happen, but if we are talking hope, that is the hope.

I think Tamin has more than earned the start, but I would be very pleased if he can spell Tamin for 15-18 minutes a game and save some wear and tear on him.

No. The hope should be that we get a good transfer that can back up tamin or play with the ball well enough and then beat teams badly enough that he gets some mop up duty minutes. There’s no reason we can’t be more realistic about this.
I'd rather have a really good 2 guard transfer that can start and then a couple bigs

Maybe he can be as good as Jamal Shead. Jamal Shead as a freshman avg. 9.9 minutes per game in the AAC and scored avg. 3.3 points. He will not be as good as Jamal Shead as a senior, who played in the Big 12 conference avg. 37 minutes per game and scored avg. 12.9 pts. per game. jmo

Im not saying he needs to put up Shead or Nowell numbers. I am more talking about being the Alpha on a team.

Don’t know the kid, but that would surprise me as there are typically several players ahead of the freshmen. Usually the upper class men have several advantages they have earned from experience and previous play. Let’s see who is on the roster before we give them their roles. By conference play things typically start falling into place. So we shall see.

I don't follow other team's recruiting much, but in the Sweet 16, Texas Tech plays Arkansas and both start freshman guards, Fland (ARK) and Anderson (TT).
(Anderson starting due to injury, but played a lot all season.) Both appear to be excellent players. What were their rankings out of HS? Why can't Toure or Bateman have that type of freshman impact?

I agree, with Tamin's injury history, reducing his playing time may help keep him fresh. Even then, the way he attacks and seeks contact, he may be injured again anyway. I would love a guard who can score and play PG. If Tamin is injured again, we may end up with Kelderman having to play PG again.

They can and do, but some people seeing the trend of “getting old” seem to act like freshmen hardly ever contribute on a good team, but they absolutely do

Fland was a Top 25 McDonalds All American and Anderson was Top 125

I’ll take whatever situation puts us in the best possible chance to win. If it’s a freshman then great if it’s a transfer one and done then fine. Whomever the better player is, I’ll take him

I’m not making some hot take here. For a school like ISU 8/10 times a guy with college experience is going to be better than an 18 year old freshman.

We’ve even learned that’s true for mid majors, low majors, and Drake even brought the D2 guys into the combo this season.

Just knowing how to work and how to be a “professional” (travel, diet, film, etc) is huge, not withstanding the physical and mental sharpening that comes with playing actual college seasons. It’s not a knock on these freshman. I hope they Milan for us but they are behind the 8 ball in a way that has never been seen before in CBB. Guys in the SWAC and ASUN and MVC and Summit know they can feed their families by playing CBB now and they are hungrier than ever before.

The plan seems to be both

Experienced combos that can play pg when needed, but also alongside Lipsey

Plus Toure, which can provide valuable minutes as a freshman like you see at our peers

Sadly...I have reached the point where I don't get all that thrilled or excited by HS recruits! Don't get me wrong...they can form a very important part of a recruiting class or philosophy. It is just that it seems every HS kid that commits to ISU gets so much praise and hype on here...I feel like it is a letdown when they can't get on the court as a freshman...or in many cases they hardly get on the Hilton court ever! I don't know but I suppose this occurs with fanbases of other schools as well. I will read about the names we chase and a little bit about the commits...but I choose to just wait and see rather than get excited about what I read regarding the recruits.
Just said the same thing to my son..."Don't want to get my expectations up over someone until I see them play" I said to him.

47% from three is also unreal lol. I expect Batemon to be the better and higher volume shooter early but I've become convinced Toure is also legit and looks like the kind of athlete ISU could really use at guard.
He is definitely physically ready, has been recognized as one of the best defenders at the high school level, and also has experience playing in Europe. Playing against competition other than high school can be a plus depending on the quality of competition. With our current roster, I see him getting PT earlier than the other high school recruits, primarily due to his physical development and defense.
