What position is he in college? Aka, what position does he defend?

It would help immensely if he could develop his outside shot, so he could play on the wing.

He really fits with the upside lottery that freshman recruiting has become. You can’t teach his scoring mindset and skills. Tenable size/athleticism. If he ends up expanding his game to the perimeter, you end up with an impactful 3 level scorer at 6’6”
People say Niang as a comp, which I see it. But I see a lot of Darrien Williams (Texas Tech)
in his game.

I agree

But that’s also the question. If he’s an average wing defender, it means he’s playing with two bigs, if TJ’s first 4 seasons hold true

That’s a congested offense blockading the paint if his perimeter shooting doesn’t improve, or one of the posts can stretch.

Intriguing prospect. Could be a mismatch. Could be a tweener
Fizer was a tweener in the pros, but I would take many of him at ISU!

Fizer wasn’t a tweener in college. So you’re saying when guys move up, they can become ineffective tweeners

Odd post if you’re trying to be bullish Mitchell

He's not a 1 on offense and a 5 on defense like he plays now. He can be a match up problem on the offensive side. Put a smaller guy on him and he's gonna shoot over the top of them. Put a bigger guy on him and his ball handling/quickness for a bigger guy might be too much for some.

Right now on defense, he would need to gaurd the non threat slower guy that Milan guards. The kid has more quickness and way more athleticism than Milan but I don't think he's ever been coached to play tough defense before or a complex defense the way he looks out there. He really trys to conserve energy on defense because he's asked to do so much on offense. Fewer minutes a game should really help him on both ends.

After watching both Xzavion and Batemon. Batemon's team really plays with a nice defensive scheme. I bet Batemon is really gonna be a special player at ISU right from the get go.
As successful as we were playing small ball this year I wonder if Jefferson might get the bulk of his minutes as a five leaving Milan with Pleta getting a bunch at the four.

In that era of the NBA he was. He was not quick enough to play the 3 and was undersized height wise by a lot to be an effective 4.

lol, no.

He was listed at 6’8 265 in college. They fudged on his height, but they all do

That’s the epitome of a college power forward in the late 90’s and early 2000s. He was absolutely big enough to play power forward in college

It was short for the NBA

But that’s irrelevant anyway. Fizer had enough to get the job done in college, but didn’t have a position when moving up a level. What is a mismatch at one level, becomes an untenable tweener when up a level

Bringing that up as analogous to Mitchell moving up to ISU is NOT in support of Mitchell doing well in college

Toure definitely seems to be the one who's stock is flying up. I think that athleticism and point of attack defense could get him in the rotation early. We never know until these guys get on campus, but there is a ton of smoke on him being a real dude.
He reminds me of Gilbert with better pull up jumper and midrange game. He even showed step back 3 pointer off the dribble. I am really excited about this this player.

Guys. Please. Let’s not do this.
Sadly...I have reached the point where I don't get all that thrilled or excited by HS recruits! Don't get me wrong...they can form a very important part of a recruiting class or philosophy. It is just that it seems every HS kid that commits to ISU gets so much praise and hype on here...I feel like it is a letdown when they can't get on the court as a freshman...or in many cases they hardly get on the Hilton court ever! I don't know but I suppose this occurs with fanbases of other schools as well. I will read about the names we chase and a little bit about the commits...but I choose to just wait and see rather than get excited about what I read regarding the recruits.

I was just going to post the exact same thing. I used to get all excited and now I just can't.

Hoping he can be a backup to Tamin?

No. The hope should be that we get a good transfer that can back up tamin or play with the ball well enough and then beat teams badly enough that he gets some mop up duty minutes. There’s no reason we can’t be more realistic about this.
