It's time to put on my Star Wars fanatic hat. They aren't meant for troop transport. Think of them more like tanks. They're meant for ground assault. They were used in Empire to take out the shield generator so the troops could be brought in by ship.

BTW, it's still cold outside.

While I agree with your assessment of the AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport) the Empire had a questionable ground assault capability.

Goddam teddy bears beat them with sticks and logs during jungle fighting. Not even nimble teddy bears.

The jungle fighting was not about their ground assault capabilities. It was about their ground defense capabilities. Let's fight the right fight.

With some snow you have to wonder if it's a quick melt next week and prompts some street flooding. Probably depends on the night temps.

Its not about wind chill. Yes I know its been around a long time. My point was when you would talk about the weather up until a few years ago, people would say its going to be 5 below with a -20 wind chill.

Now many times people dont even talk about the actual temp they only want to go by the "feels like" temp. And as I said, -20 feels like is very cold yes, but actual temp of -20 is colder. Because a few years ago, people talked about the actual temp and then assumed the wind chill on top of it.

Now we hear people say "it feels like -20 out, so its the same as when it was actually -20" But that is just false because almost always actual -20 will have a much lower wind chill itself. Like I said its fine to go by "feels like" temp, with the understanding its not the same thing as what the actual actual temps.

Not a grudge, just an annoying observation, of how things have changed.
In my experience, when we hit those bitterly cold temps, -20 to -30 range, the feels like or wind chill isn't normally a whole lot colder. Even the wind doesn't like to go out when it gets that cold! ;)

But just a little bit of wind can make a huge difference at the colder temps.

For example at 35 degrees a 5 mph wind only drops the WC 4 degrees to 31. But at 5 degrees it drops it 10 degrees to -5. At -25 it drops it 15 degrees to -40. And at -45 it drops it 18 degrees to a WC of -63.

This morning before dawn it was -13 at my house. I saw a breeze blowing a hanging pressed bird seed feeder in the back yard right next to the house so I knew the WC was colder. I didn't want to know how low the WC was. Sometimes it is better to not know... That said, it was likely at least 25 below WC.

I was out in it all morning. The air temperature is nearly 10 degrees colder than yesterday but with the sun shining and calm conditions, it's actually quite a bit nicer out there today.

Are you easily annoyed though?

As far as I'm concerned, as an organic warm blooded being, the feels like temperature (or wind chill if you prefer) is the only relevant discussion when temps go below zero. Everyone in Iowa already knows the difference.
