Something that has surprised me about KU - how have they not recruited over Dejaun Harris? Guy is scared to shoot all he does is dribble. It just blows my mind he has been there for so long and not been recruited over.
Harris is very, very good at what he does (ball handling, passing and defense), but is pretty limited otherwise. Very similar to Dickinson in that regard.

It's the almost 5:1 A:TO. He just flat doesn't get you beat and is a really good defender.

Ok? He just takes up space. On a team that has trouble scoring they need someone to score. And I disagree with the really good defender part, he's a decent defender but nothing special.

Huh? Dickinson was supposed to be a great offensive piece. A 7 footer who can play inside and outside. I was surprised he didn't attempt any 3's last night.

Contrast Self or Coach K after a loss vs a tool like Izzo. Izzo everything is his players sucked and nothing but backhanded compliments at best.

Coach K always annoyed me during games but postgame he was always giving all the credit to the opponent. Self can be a little critical of his guys but he’s largely very appreciative of opponents, certainly ISU. At some point I think some of these coaches can start enjoying these great games and atmospheres in the moment.
Pregame walkout the way TJ and Self embraced and talked, emphasizes this point IMO. I think Self likes coming to Ames and us going to KU it is actually great theater on top of a athletic event. They are 2 smart fanbases and both fill up their arenas

Attended first MBB game in since '81. What impressed me most was the dribble skills of Lipsey and Gilbert. You see their crossovers on TV but to see them in person was incredible.

Fun to see crowd lavish Watson each time he went out.

Jones? What can you say? Not sure I've seen a better half.

So much more, but as a lifelong fan, still living in disbelief over how good this team is.

What's impressive with Jones is he didn't seem to get flustered when KU took him out in the 2nd half and still found other ways to get involved.

And then that last three looked like a quiet message.

Just saying he is similar in that he also has a limited skillset. Very good on offense, but can be taken away if you decide to due to his immobility and his lack of mobility on defense also creates a vulnerability for them.

This was a great team win. Fun game, tons of energy from the players and the crowd.

Tough game Saturday at West Virginia. I hope there's no hangover. But with TJ and his staff, I think they'll get the team refocused quickly

I love how Bias was constantly criticizing his as we were pulling away

He was right but it sounded like sour grapes.
He was right. Basically saying my God if they just stop making unforced turnovers they might win by 30. Bilas has picked ISU as one of his final 4 teams. He was over the top complimentary of ISU

It's not sour grapes, it was being truthful.

Agree, self loves playing in Ames. Not that he would like to do it everyday, but he likes the challenge and he appreciates that people love hoops here.

KU recruiting is definitely off. With NIL and such, I wonder if it's partially a case of too many chefs. We know previously Adidas was paying the bills, but Self was able to use that and get the players he wanted. Now everyone is throwing money at them and likely their two cents on players it should be spent on. He isn't alone, but I wonder how many of these guys are shopping recruiting rankings rather than fit.
Watching Selfs postgame comments last night got me thinking. He complemented TJ and staffs talent evaluation and credited that as to ISU's rise over the last 4 years. I know its been said on here that TJ and Co do deep dives into the analytics of each player.

I wonder if KU has a talent evaluation problem? If you look at who they have picked up in the way of transfers Dickinson, Storr, Mayo were all hot names when they entered the portal and they have been okay, but not near the return they should be getting for the alleged millions they have invested into them. And that is just the transfers for this year-im sure you could go back and still find similar issues

Feels like they just go after the "big" names, without doing as much evaluating IMO

Dickinson is in his 2nd year at KU. He averaged 17.9 ppg, 10.9 rpg and 1.4 blocks last year. Was in POY conversation and 2nd team all-American. Mayo is good. Kevin McCullar was really good, but got hurt.

I'm not ready to say that Self has lost it. With the right draw they could be s sweet 16 team. Or a 1st round upset victim.
