If going by quad 1 wins (they're 4-2) they'd be at least a 2 seed right now.

Agree, as of now... I was just saying that Houston will get their fair share of losses in the Big 12.

I don't think they will be a 1 seed.... probably a 3. Of course they could get end up being a 1... I just don't think so.

I'm happy that Houston and BYU have taken losses to start conference season. However, it just proves that where teams finish in the final standings will be based on protecting home court and picking up road wins. Really nothing new.

So a bunch of teams with really good records is a problem now?

Would you call Houston top 8 material? At 4-2 vs. Quad 1 wins?

Can you cite a better conference? What is that based on?
No problems. The conference is a self confirming bias. We get upset when the SEC does it in football just need to recognize it when it happens to our conference.

Houston was highly ranked in the preseason. Metrics and record confirm assumptions. ISU beats them. ISU gets their record and metrics confirmed. Now if we lose to say BYU then their metrics and record are confirmed.

Is Houston any good? Yes. How good I don't know but it's not as good as their current ranking but we are basing the league on unapproven assumptions.

The league has good teams but I don't think they are as good as their metrics/rankings. The league is beating up on each other so it's a self fulfilling fallacy.

Houston is still #1 in kenpom by a large margin, and #1 in NET. Kenpom doesn't seem to care that much if you win/lose.

KU currently #16 in both.

My issue with SEC football is that there are obviously great teams at the top, but really bad ones at the bottom. They play and 8-game schedule and throw in a mid-season cupcake.

The Big12 is and has been the best mbb conference for several years, not because the teams beat up on each other, but because they dominate other conferences in the non-conference season.

I definitely believe that the overall quality college basketball is down this year, that there are no great teams, including in the Big12. But this conference, top to bottom, is still better this season than any other.

I think in general, there are enough non-conference matchups in basketball to get a pretty good idea of how the conferences compare to each other. Football is so limited in that regard, with each P5 team probably averaging about 1 non-conference P5 opponent in the regular season.

For a look at the parity of college basketball right now, of the top 10 teams on Kenpom, the only ones to not have a loss outside of the Kenpom top 25 are Houston, North Carolina, and Illinois. Beyond that, 5 of the top 10 have a loss outside the Kenpom top 50. Except for the very best teams against the very worst, pretty much every game outcome at this point in the season is far from certain without it being a huge shock.

People need to get out of the football ranking mindset where the top teams rarely lose but once or twice a season at most. To say Houston doesn’t deserve their ranking, then who does?

College hoops isn’t college football and the parity has been going on for several years now. Every good team has some losses and some at the top have some bad ones if you are judging by who should be top-5.

Kansas just lost at UCF, Purdue has losses to Northwestern and Nebraska (not horrible losses but the elite teams of 10+ years ago don’t lose both of those.

We have to get out of the mindset that losing road games is a bad thing for really any team. Texas just lost at a really bad WVU team but it was on the road. FAU lost at fricking Charlotte after beating Arizona. Speaking of Arizona, hello loss at Wazzu. And on and on.

In fairness, I’m not sure people are looking for validation as much as they’re noting what douche bags some coaches are. Sampson was just an a$$hole in his post game.
Watched a couple Houston podcasts and Sampson's remark about the ft differential wasn't directed at the way the game was called. He was pissed at his team for not being more aggressive on offense and settled for jumpers is what they're saying. Kinda takes some sting out of his comments. I agree that wasn't the best post-game, but he did compliment Hilton. Seemed pissed and just wanted to get out of there.

LOTS of coaches leave Hilton with that same, exact feeling!! :)

Fairly certain Thom is Cap Timm on Cyclone Alert.
This got linked in a premium thread but just wanted to chime in that this is incorrect. Source: me who knows Capp Timm’s real life name and it ain’t Thom

I stand by what I said. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but Capp has posted things about his background that are incredibly similar to Thom's. You've admitted you have not met Capp in person.

I feel bad for 111s experience as it sounds like the dude was a douche.

FWIW, I’m not about revealing identities on these things, we have screen names for a reason. With that, unless there are multiple personalities who post under Cap Timm, I know who Cap Timm identifies as in real life, and his name is not Thom.

I have stated in another thread how last night reminded me a bit like the meltdown in Lubbock last January. Not so much the score, but how the team reacted to having it taken to their defense, the deer in the headlights look by the coaching staff. Just had that same feel.

Now I know it doesn't mean time to get all lathered up about it......but after seeing last night IMO there is a 50/50 shot that just like last February, this thing could go off the rails.

I've watched that kind of thing happen over and over through the years. One team catches fire and is playing decisively all over the court. The other team starts thinking instead of reacting. This team seems tough minded enough to let that game be that game, and move on from it quickly.
