How does VCU find those guys? Lawal and Belle are both from London. Shulga is Ukrainian.
Homan took jump shots because he had no post moves. He was a bruiser, good rebounder, and good defensive player. Yes, almost every shot BRE makes is close to the basket but isn’t that a center expected to do? BRE has no range but he is decent around the basket. Why is it hard for some posters to accept the fact that BRE is better around the basket than other ISU big men from the past. I never said BRE is a better player than Homan.Dude. Homan took a lot of jump shots. Jones would throw the ball over the backboard if he shot a three. Jones 54% is all 2-4 feet away from the basket. He's decent at layups and bunnies. But he sucks at shooting. Doesn't mean he's a bad player. I love everything else he does.
Crazy to think Lawal has a vertical that is 4” higher than anyone in the NBA. Freak of nature that one is! Any QB would love to have a guy at 49” vertical! How does VCU find those guys? Lawal and Belle are both from London. Shulga is Ukrainian.
I believe Shulga played for Odom at Utah State. How does VCU find those guys? Lawal and Belle are both from London. Shulga is Ukrainian.
Someone needs to get some nil action headed his way. Any jerseys or t's out there that might put something in his pocket? I'd wear his jersey to KC and the big12's proudly.
Homan was a decent FT shooter, but offensively he was pretty much an 8’ and in guy. He was a better jump shooter than Rob, but when you factor in post move shots, it’s hard to make a case he was much of a better shooter overall than Rob. A baby hook is still a shot. I think if stuck Rob on that team as the only legit big with all those guards he would put up a good season. Homan was a good player and exactly what that team needed.Dude. I think you nailed it in terms of Watson. Throwing a VCU type guy in Watson minimizes the massive skill advantage ISU had with the other guys.I am going to write off the first half as ISU not having faced elite size and athleticism in earlier games this season. TJ & Staff got things corrected at half.
One aspect of our offense that was glaring to me was zero mid-range shots. I know the analytics folks will say that is a bad shot, but feel like we were spoiled the last couple years with guys like Kalscheur, Brockington and Holmes. But VCU's defense was a bit unique in that they allowed easy dribble/drive and then collapsed on driver with their length.
People have also questioned why Watson didn't play. I could be wrong, but I think it comes down to VCU's defense allowing dribble penetration. It made sense to load up minutes for Lipsey, Gilbert and C Jones- all guys who can penetrate. The guys who lost out were Biliew and Watson.
Kudos to King. It’s clear he’s applying himself. That first year was atrocious.
(Was ESPN doing remote telecast when he started?) that first year sounded like he was calling the game while scrolling through his feed/texting.
If other teams start over defending our shooters the Gilbert/Lipsey driving to the bucket needs to kick in sooner. Gilbert has insane handles and can get to the rack better than anyone I can remember at ISU. Tinsley maybe?I think they both need to learn how to operate with someone good working hard to defend them. They need to work just as hard to get themselves open or help their teammates. The whole team needs to work on getting good shots for guys that can make them. It looked like a Prohm offense in the first half.

Garrett always could get to the hoop. Just couldn't finish. If other teams start over defending our shooters the Gilbert/Lipsey driving to the bucket needs to kick in sooner. Gilbert has insane handles and can get to the rack better than anyone I can remember at ISU. Tinsley maybe?
Why are people comparing Homan to Jones?
He'll cool off some but if he can be around 60% that will be good for where he gets most of his shots and a huge bump up from 47% last year.BRE is shooting an incredible 79% from the floor (19-24) this year. I remember he got off to a really good start last year as well, and then struggled at times in B12 play. Hopefully he can continue the efficient shooting throughout the whole season. He will need to kick it out more against B12 bigs. Last year he forced things too much.
