That was kind of my thought. The (false) defender in free speech is suing companies to... prevent free speech.
If thats why hes doing it sure, I can get on board with you. But I don't think thats whats at play here. Guess we will see how this shakes out.

Elon Musk on Monday made good on his promise to sue Media Matters, filing a federal lawsuit that accuses the left-leaning watchdog group and one of its reporters of doctoring images in an article that showed ads for major corporations next to posts depicting hate speech on X, Musk’s social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Legal experts on technology and the First Amendment widely characterized X’s complaint on Monday as weak and opportunistically filed in a court that Musk likely believes will take his side.

Sorry but if your Twitter For You is filled with toxic ******** then it's because you engage in toxic ********. If your twitter following feed is filled with toxic ******** it's because you chose to follow toxic ********. It really isn't that hard to figure out. Some people think their **** doesn't stink when in reality it's them rolling in the pig pen everyday.

Everyone that is pumping these alternatives is just comical at this point. Threads was supposed to be the final death blow....welp that didn't happen. Bluesky? LOL. Mastodon? Niche (which is good IMHO) LinkedIn? Corporate Cringe

Companies pulling advertisements is nothing more then riding the current 15 seconds of attention. Deflects from their current flaws and past flaws.

Some guy just randomly had his life destroyed by Musk and a band of Nazis.

He was just minding his own business and had nothing to do with any of it. He happened to look like somebody the Nazis decided they hate.

Your post is pretty dumb in that context.

“This reads like a press release, not a court filing to me,” said Joan Donovan, a professor of journalism and emerging media studies at Boston University. “X does admit the ads were shown next to hateful content, but argues it was ‘rare.’ This is the same strategy employed by advertisers that got YouTube to demonetize political content in 2017.”

Just a clarification, I don’t think the accusation in the lawsuit is that they doctored the images. It’s that Media Matters was shown those ads next to those posts based on who they followed and by scrolling and refreshing a lot.

not filed in CA, but in TX. guess which state has an anti-SLAPP law. guess which state X is primarily headquartered? If you said CA for both questions, you get an A. So why TX? We can only presume.
I suspect Paxton invited him, based on the hoopla the two have stirred in the press.

"Rare". Curious if you realize how rare we're talking about here?

I'm in the same boat I have zero idea what they are talking about. Could be because my twitter feed is split between iowa state, other sports and farming because that's what I have chosen to be shown.

Sent both of you messages with the story I think people are referring to. Anyone can be added to the message, but I figured it was best to keep it out of this thread

Sorry but I missed this one.

Some random person just happened to look like somebody a bunch of self described Nazis wanted to dox and Elon got supper excited to support them and ruin the guy's life...you know because he's friends with those people and spends his free time chatting with them and encouraging their hate crimes.

But hey...it's harmless if you take the effort to make sure your own feed is perfect.

It's frivolous lawsuit that won't go anywhere. Paxton is going to investigate Media Matters because his actual job as top lawman in Texas is political and little to nothing to do with protecting citizens in Texas. Just more political theater from the GOP.

Frivolous is an interesting description for something that caused direct monetary damages.
