we woke up this morning and yet twitter, or X, still stands and everyone is still using it.

shocker!

its not going anywhere.
Are they? It's lower than 2021 and 2022 (although still quite high).

It's definitely possible it will break and become unusable due to lack of maintenance, but I think it's more likely it will just stick around as a shell of itself. MySpace is still around

I don't see how you can really look at Twitter since Musk took over and go "yep, Musk is doing an amazing job"

Maybe saying everyone was a bit broad-

people i tend to follow are still using it and will continue to use it because its the best way to get the word out to all of your followers in a very quick fashion.

you think I am going to "XYZ" website to search out "ABC" writer and try and locate their articles? No way, they're tweeting it to their followers.

Lol yes because we all thought it would disappear overnight. All that's happened so far is they've declared it's called X. That's it. They haven't even changed the domain yet. So of course it's still going.

Rebranding such a well known product that's to the point where "tweeting" is a verb so ingrained in popular culture is a huge risk for a healthy company, much less a company that's hemorrhaging advertising income in large part due to the proliferation of hate speech on the site.

"Everyone" is an interesting turn of phrase considering they've been hemorrhaging advertisers and users lately. As for not going places, I think we have some agreement. It's hard to go anywhere you want to be when you have a negative cash flow.

I think you mean x-ing it to their followers.

I don't think many people actually think its going anywhere any time soon, but Elons ownership has been an unmitigated disaster and I would love to see anyone argue otherwise. He took a culturally iconic brand and has mismanaged so badly it now needs a rebrand. What a joke.

I'd like to see the financials. It would appear he way over paid and then, like ANY/ALL businesses, starts to cut fat to make ends meet. Subjective or not, the areas he cut, he felt could not return the investment. People complaining otherwise, probably don't understand the fiscal elements. Yes. Sad cuts. But unless you're in his shoes, you, plain and simply, do not know.

How about this. Cut the ******* Nazis and bull **** posts? The bots amplifying crazy ****.

How about cutting down on the porn? Think GM wants to see their ad by OnlyFans right next to it?

It was always a sloppy platform. Now it's so sloppy I don't know how a company can risk putting an ad up.

I think Musk tweeted recently that they've lost 50% of ad revenue. Not sure how much of the total revenue that is, but I'd imagine there aren't too many other revenue sources.

Logged in on a browser with my laptop for my work account and there is an X where the bird used to be. It definitely looks lame and just feels like something you'd hit to close a window. It must be a slow roll out though since the bird is still on the browser tab and the app.

So...what exactly are we calling tweets and retweets now? Ya know, the whole 'bird' thing...

Yeah, that's the thing. The usage of the website is tied in with the name. Twitter\bird\tweet

Its one thing to do a careful rebrand after a significant amount of research and consideration. Its entirely another to do so because you're a 13 year old trapped in a 52 year old's body and still think "X" in anything is cool.

Kitty cat's Cat Twitter still has the bird favicon and bird on the top left. No "X" in sight. I for one hope the band sues his ass into oblivion.

So did he announce yesterday they were planning a rebrand and a day later they're starting to already roll it out? Or was this something that's been in the works?

No, idea. Yesterday was the first I had heard of it. I'll say it appears to be about the level of web design tools that I possess, which is limited to dragging and dropping into a block.
