The company lost billions before Elon as well right? So the biggest story of the day in financial markets is that a company is possibly changing its name? I don't have a clue if it's a good idea or not but it's his company and he's been somewhat successful in the past.

Last year the following happened:

Johnson & Johnson rebranded its consumer products business by creating a stand-alone company called Kenvue.

J&J is worth around 500 billion. Twitter is worth around 15 billion.

How many new stories did you hear about J&J?
The rebrand may work we will have to see. All I'm saying is that it seems like a very off the cuff decision like a lot of the decisions he's made about Twitter since taking it over. I just looked it up and Twitter is worth 1/3 the value since he bought it not that long ago. It certainly never hurts to have the company talked about in the news but not sure a rebrand is going to bring a lot of the people that already left back with no other changes.

Well, Musk apparently found a logo he liked. I wonder if he’ll stop calling them tweets because that’s related to the bird logo.

I don’t think the logo is terrible, but I’m not sure it’s so great to justify a rebrand, especially to x.com which kind of sounds like a porn website

Edit: according to the BBC “tweets” will be phased out and will be called “x’s” instead.

Losing 2/3 of it's value is one thing.

"Bring a lot of the people that already left back with no other changes". Besides the short burst that Threads had at the start, has Twitter actually saw traffic go down since Musk bought the company?

So, if X.com is supposed to also include being a video platform, does that mean videos posted there become xvideos?

I just don't see the point, everyone knows what twitter is. When you search or google for the letter x you will get a million other unrelated things that have the letter X in the name.
I feel like flushing out whatever X is should be done first and then incorporate some of those things into twitter

I was going to make a joke about calling them "exes", but I guess the jokes are just reality now.

I guess when someone grabs my phone to go to x.com and xvideos.com shows up in the history I can just say it's where they host their videos? This is not good, not good at all.

X seems played out as a marketing thing.

We have an entire generation with X in there and the black and white colors bring that overplayed vibe too.

I mean if we're going to say the world talking about you is a barometer of success, let's not forget almost the whole world was talking about OceanGate for a while too.

Is there any world in which we want to spend more time with our x's? Or money on an x? Or effort to make x's meaningful and fulfilling?

Everything that might be cool or interesting about X are explicit, already copyrighted, or both. This might be the single worst marketing decision since Drake's D+.

I feel sorry for the person that wants to talk about their x and posts revenge x rated videos to their x followers on X.
Sounds like this is made for them.

Looks like Elon has discovered the final step in driving his 44 billion dollar investment completely into the ground. Impressive.
