So you are saying it is about competition and not social conscious, i would agree

And in no way shape or form would the feeling be as strong if this was Oklahoma State.
We are generally more aware and interested in those on our schedule. We are also as a fanbase and as a nation more interested in higher rated recruits.

It may draw a few more eyes and a few more posts because it is Iowa, but the vast majority of what we see here would still be here if this was Baylor or Okie State.

The fact that you’re saying this is a sports thing is kind of the point I’m making.

They are going to hide behind toxicology results as the reason for the delay of releasing the names. I do believe we hear something soon.

I don't think I'm a big fan of hoping that a specific individual was involved in a fatal accident because they wear different laundry than I do.
He was the driver. I don’t know why anyone is questioning that or hoping for anything.

I really hope that a substance wasn't the reason why this happened. That'd make things much worse. It's already a horrible and tragic situation.

When I was in high school, there was a kid in my class (16 years old at the time) who put it into drive rather than reverse while trying to back out at a Casey's. Local paper put his name in the paper on the story, and everyone at school had a laugh about it.

I don't care about the name but I do care about the double standard.
What's the double standard though? Iowa City police releases names of minors involved in fatal accidents every time except this time? Do we know that's true? If that's true I'm 100% in agreement.

You can choose to be obtuse but I'm not going to play it.

Police should have a policy on naming minors and should follow the policy. Also, they should explain the policy to the public and when/if there are gray areas and what they are. ICPD has license (in practice) to be incommunicado, and that’s no good.

Obtuse is kind of his thing though.

Also, its worth noting, the IC authorities aren't the ones saying they're withholding information because the driver was a minor. That's just someone's opinion on CF.

They're saying they're withholding it because of an ongoing investigation. This makes little sense to me. That makes sense when releasing that info could compromise an investigation, but not one where the facts (aside from possible toxicology results) are pretty clear, and you see accidents (and the names of those involved) reported all the time while investigations are still proceeding to determine if a driver is criminally liable.

Just focus on where it says Iowa State Patrol and then think about how those letters don't spell Iowa City Police Department. Are their policies different? I assume you don't know because I also don't know.

It's fair to question why someone has not been named yet.

It's also fair to question why some people on here care so much.

I honestly didn't care about this story until it looked like the ICPD was being shady as **** with their treatment of this case simply because someone involved is connected to someone with money.

Not exactly sure.

To me, I don’t care if it’s sports related or not, even if it’s a nerd who doesn’t participate at all. If someone is killed in Iowa, the person charged should be named. I can’t speak for other states since I’m not a resident.

And that's a fine position to take, I don't agree, but it's a valid point of view. Although in this case there haven't been any charges filed as of now.
