Many people are blowing it off.
That's my point...It was never acceptable, even though it was part of the lexicon and used often in pop culture.
It was normalized because it was ok to use hate speech. There were no consequences, and it was seen as "cool" to make fun of people for not being straight or not being masculine.
Its not cool to make fun of people about anything personal to them. I dont know if its a remnant from a tribal past or what, but it IS getting better as time progresses. People are evolving to be more understanding of things that are different from them. We can't erase the past, but we can learn from it. Its not a switch that can just be flipped though.
