This makes me so sad. I have read all of these posts and wow, so many things it could be. What really bothers me is I remember reading an article once about how she had wanted to play at Iowa State since she was little. Knowing that I have to get over it and still support my Cyclones, I am very excited about our new recruits for next year. Also, saw someone earlier post that when Bill is ready to retire we should try to get Chris Kielsmeier from Cleveland State and I too think this would be a terrific hire. He went to Iowa State, did great at Wayne State and has done a great job in a Division 1 head coaching job now as well. He is from Radcliffe or Alden too so ISU is in his own back (or front) yard! I'm sure he is hoping to move to a Power 5 conference sometime soon. One more thing, I looked it up after someone said CBF was in his 50's and he is 65.

That was me. He also served as an intern under Bill.

FWIW Billy turned down a HC job in Ohio this weekend. Not sure of the school, but I’m sure of everything else considering the source.

Her not mentioning ANY of the coaches doesn’t mean diddly squat. All it does is allow the Bill haters to fill in the non-existing gaps with their own interpretation.

BTW …she didn’t mention the trainers, faculty, AD, etc. when will you all start to call them out? Maybe a prof pissed her off? Geesh….

It's ok to acknowledge that Bill has had good career at Iowa State and has done a ton for the program but it's also time for him to move on. Things are cyclical, we've seen it over and over at a ton of schools. I don't care if you like Bill or not, her not mentioning the staff is pretty glaring.

I thought I had read a week or two ago that BF hasn't lost anyone from his staff in like 15 years. That is unheard of.

Just going to leave this right here. I saw this because Brynn Williamson reposted it.

I am also going to leave this quote "The grass is greener on the other side", the portal makes this seem like a dream, and without having to sit out a year, you can switch whenever you like.
I really want the best for Lexi and I hope she finds it wherever.
As for Bill, it has been said multiple times that he deserves to go out when he wants and that he has earned that right. Again, ISU wouldn't be considered a top tier program without him. I do believe that he has adjusted his style and this year would have been an excellent chance to show a change, but you know what happened and you adjust. Now it is time for all of us to except that he is our coach.
I rewatched the Texas game to specifically watch Lexi. Happier times if you will, but we have to respect her wishes and know that we will never hear the real reason.

This is kind of where I'm at. It's jarring that a player of Lexi's caliber left suddenly, but the other transfers weren't really a surprise. Maggie, Morgan, and Maggie all seem like great people but nobody should kid themselves and think that they were going to play a large role in the 23-24 team.

Lexi's statement not mentioning anything about staff is definitely interesting, though.

another thing to consider in women's game is that I think more non-basketball related factors influence players transferring. in the men's game most the guys think they have shot of making it pro. tons of opportunity with NBA / G League / Euro. they want to showcase themselves at highest level program they can get mins. also the NIL $.

for the women only top 60 or so WNBA players make over $100k and it's not something many women's college players see as a realistic career. they are thinking more about their major, geographic location, new experiences, friends, family, etc.

no clue what Lexi's decision came down to but i'd bet/hope it was more non-basketball related than most on here are considering. it's possible she had disagreements with BF, or got tired of his coaching.

but is she going to learn anything new staying at ISU one more year?

For those calling for Bill to retire...

He just brought in another solid recruiting class and has the start to another one the following year. If he steps down, we stand a chance at losing several of those players and really start off the next Chapter in Cyclone WBB from the bottom.

Recruiting hasn’t been a problem but great retaining players has. The portal isn’t the same for women’s hoops as it is for men. Yes players enter but not at near the same clip.

If you have time, listen to Williams and Blum's podcast from today. They talk about Lexi.
