No, not really. WV actually made a lot of good, very contested shots.

Tamin attempted one or two open good look 3s early in the 1st half, they didn't go in, and for the rest of the game he like a panicked deer in headlights every time he had space around the perimeter. Saying he was gun shy would be understatement. Nothing too terrible, just very freshman.

Shoon and Rob had a few glaringly unnecessary and lazy reach-ins during WV's late run to retake the lead. Those were costly with both teams in the bonus. There were also two really bad quick whistles on Tamin and Gabe when the ref was anticipating contact, but there was no contact at all. Our physicality on D actually felt cleaner than the rest of February has (barring the triple T fiasco for Jaz and Grill after the flagrant 2 on WV).

Nah, at least not as bad as it has been the last 2 weeks. Offense had a bad stretch in the 1st half after jumping out to a good lead, but otherwise looked fairly competent and confident. It's not the end all, but TJ having scripted substitutions instead of feeling out the game has really killed momentum for us in many games.
Yes, this anticipating contact stuff is not good. Especially in Hilton.

I truly don't understand the posters that continually tear down our accomplishments in basketball and football. It is so hard to win bowls and in the NCAA Tournament. Teams benefit from things all of the time, but we're the only school that apparently deserves asterisks next to our wins.

Our wins aren't ever wins because of something or other but our losses are never losses because refs and the league are out to get us lol.

Starting to feel very Prohm-ish. Tj raised the floor of the program by focusing on defense but like Steve, game day isn't his strength. Hopefully it's just a symptom of a limited roster but big 12 coaches have us figured out and they are coaching circles around TJ.

The Jaz injury was a blessing in disguise bc it threw a curve ball to other teams who had figured out how to shut us down last year. Once he returned, we went right back to what we did last year. The results speak for themselves. It's just really tough to figure out why we abandoned the smaller lineup, it really feels like we're trying really hard not to lose rather than trying to win.
Its hard to fathom that being totally true when we were within 2 at Allen Fieldhouse and won by double digits practically vs KU at home this season. That's Bill Self by the way. (Does make me wonder tho how it took a whole half of the season for teams to figure out not to guard Tamin and eliminate the P&R.)

Awesome info. Agree on the scripted subs. I also dont like how often someone like a Shoon or a Kunc have been effective only for the team not to really look to feed them the ball. We've seen something like that happen numerous times from the first to the second half in games.

They were down 8 at half and actually showed life. The team lacks a closer and good shooters. They had some good looks and flat out missed

At the beginning of the season most agreed they will struggle to score. Some of the 5 year guys were exceeding their scoring metric s by a lot in early Jan. Ended up not being sustainable. Guys in year 4 and 5 are going to go back to their historic shooting percentages.

Honestly if ISU players kept their cool after the flagrant they probably win this. Gotta be smarter when you are gifted something like that. I think TJ took a veiled shot at his players in the presser not being smarter

I saw the stuff with the flagrant and will just assume it was as pivotal as most made it out to be. It's another black eye in about a month long string of antics for Grill.

Good point. He played a hell of a game tonight, I hope he still has a couple Ws left in a Cyclone uni.
Gabe has been an underrated asset in TJ's turnaround of the program. The intensity he brings on the defensive side of the ball has been the spearhead to the defensive resurgence. His shooting and lack of offensive consistency has made us want to rip our hair out at times, but all in all, this team isn't what it has been in either of his 2 years without him present. He is probably one of the best non-pro 4/5 year guys to have put on the uniform over the last decade or so.

It's not really hard to fathom when the 18-19 team beat KU by double digits at home and were within 4 in Lawrence. Sort of like this year. They later went on that same season and beat KU in the championship game to win the Big 12 tourney. Same Bill Self by the way.

I would take a win over KU next week for some tourney hardware wouldn't you?

And by the way, in the last 22 years only 2 ISU coaches have won in Lawrence.

Within or over the last 22 years?

I'm counting Eustachy '01, Morgan '05 and Prohm '17.

Those three are definitely the only ones in the modern era/last 40.

Yeah you are correct. Should have said post LE because everyone knows he owned KU when things were rolling.

And take away the incredible officiating (phantom three game) there is a good chance Morgan would have 2 wins in Lawrence.

Johnny didn't "step down". and he wasn't fired.
The administration just told him he wasn't going to be the head coach any more.
That must have been really tough on him, being treated that way.

Eh, its a business.

I wasn't old enough to really remember those days, but his teams had finished in the bottom half of the conference 6 of his last 8 years, one of the two other years being a tie for 4th\5th. That'll get you pushed out almost anywhere these days. Especially when his last 3 years had 2 seasons where they were 1 game out of last place.

I never heard this story. Any sources on it?
