Yes. I think Hunter knew he’s not NBA material so he parlayed his NCAA Tourney heroics into a payday. It was probably a very good move on his part.
I doubt that’s the case here. Athletes at this level rarely ever think they aren’t good enough. I literally think all that happened is he found out how much other guys were making in the NIL game and realized he could make way more than what he was getting here. Shopped himself around and boom.

I love TJ and the culture he’s built here, but it would be very surprising if Tyrese is our last high profile player to ever transfer out without some massive regulations to NIL/transfer portal

I agree with you on that he probably won't be the last high profile player to transfer out due to an NIL deal, but I don't think it will be real common. I think TJ will vet that during the recruiting process. He really wasn't able to do that with Hunter as he really wasn't his recruit and basically just did what he could to keep him committed.

I just think you're exaggerating with the whole "we're the best on earth" thing. I don't think the fact that a previous coaching staffs put players into the league is all that relevant for the current staff.

Hunter turned a decent freshman year into a payday, it turns out he's maybe not as good as was once thought, so that seems to clearly have been the right move for him.
He turned the LSU game in the NCAA tournament into the payday.

Hunter is a prime example of why I think the NIL actually works in our favor. Sounds like he got a bag of cash to transfer to a place he’s not truly passionate about and lost the desire to want to play at an elite level whereas we have a PG (Lipsey) that is living out his dream and playing for a university he loves.
This also applies to football. Craig McDonald went to Auburn because of NIL and played in two games. Asked to come back and our staff said no. I've posted this before. Not breaking news. His parents still attend ISU tailgates.

It is interesting how quickly people’s opinion changes. Many on this aboard thought he was going to be first team all American and sure first round pick after Gonzaga game. I said after Gonzaga game that the law of average will catch up with him. That’s exactly what happened since then. He is a decent college player but he will most likely not even be first team all conference.

I think Jay Bilas was the national voice claiming Tyrese was an All-American candidate post Gonzaga game. I also don't think even those rooting against TH could of envisioned it going this poorly.

It really hasn't impacted Texas' team success much. He's just faded into the background for them.

If you watched how he played in his freshman year, it was obvious that he was far from first team all American or first round NBA pick. He can drive to the basket but can’t finish and he can’t create jump shots. Even if he can create jumps shot on his own, he is not going to make at high percentage. He made 7 three pointers against LSU by just stop and pop. It wasn’t created off dribble. I wasn’t convinced that he was better this year even after Gonzaga game because he did exactly the same thing he did against LSU.

I will go to my grave believing that @CyCity is Twins. Posts almost the same content on 247 as he did over here minus the trolling. He just posted the other day that he had Iowa fans DMing him about the Brian Ferentz situation.
Looks like the same fate as CyTwins... account exists but (non-mods) can't access it.

I was expecting him to be an easy All-Conference guy the next couple seasons. He had all the potential to be a great college player. Maybe some of the downfall has been self-inflicted because he obviously chose the immediate pay day over fit. Playing next to Carr never made sense. His loss.

What were his other options? I remember Kansas and Tennessee wanted him.
