I have officially unfired myself as a Jones critic. He simply doesn't belong out there. A tired big is better than him rested.
gotta keep Osun out of foul trouble and its apparent he can't be a 37 minute guy.

That's about right for him. How is the neighbor doing?
Ok. Slipped on ice, has a concussion, pretty sore, nothing broken. Has a heart condition and diabetes. Told him to stay in and husband and I will go out with his elderly dog every few hours (and also check on him but dog gives us excuse to do that). He’s three years younger than me but has a lot of health problems.

Some thoughts after going back and rewatching some of the game and looking at box score…

Turnovers obviously killed us as we all know. I just can’t believe how BAD some of them were. So uncharacteristic. I also can’t believe the box score is showing Jones with only 2 turnovers. Seemed like more than that. Gabe with 6 which has to be his worst of the year by far. A few were just inexplicable.

As good as Grill has been this year I almost feel like it took him being unavailable to really see his impact on both ends of the floor. Have to think they’d be able to play a little less aggressively in defense and a few of those threes would have been contested. We’re just not the same without him on the floor.

This is also first game where I’ve really felt like Jaz’s absence killed us. Probably not unrelated to Grill being out too. We needed someone off the bench to step up and it just didn’t happen. Does anyone know when he is scheduled to be back?

Ward looked completely lost and unengaged. Think today was good view into what TJ sees on the daily and explains why he doesn’t get more minutes.

Rob continues to regress although will give him credit for the rebounding today. His effort is there but he just loses his head every time he touches the ball.

First time I’ve felt like Lipsey looked like a freshman all year. Not a great outing by standards we’ve become accustomed to (I.e. spoiled by).

Holmes with another solid outing. His consistency has been really impressive.

Still excited about King. He brings something to the team we didn’t have last year. I keep reminding myself he had a long break from game action and his learning curve has been Big 12 conference slate which can’t be easy. Think he will continue to improve.

All of that said, we’re still top of the Big 12. Getting Jaz and Grill healthy will be huge as it gives TJ a lot more options with rotations and match ups. This is not a bad loss and I’d actually rather get a bad game out of the way in a non-conference game than catch one in a conference game that we’re expected to win. They’re going to happen in a long, grueling season.

Like everyone else I wanted a win today but I’m not reading too far into this. We get beat that bad with our full team/starting 5 and I feel differently. Going to TTU who is likely undermanned is probably a blessing. Quick turnaround will be tough but the upside is that we have an extra day before KU game at home.

This week is going to be a big week.

That many turnovers and shooting a worse percentage of your free throws than the opponents three point percentage makes it really really unlikely that a team will win. We really do need Grill and Kunc back healthy ASAP to achieve the success in conference play that most of us CyFanatics would like. Hopefully the Clones can prevail even if they are short handed this week.

Picked a really bad game to go to. Had a feeling this kind of effort was coming, given we were due and the confluence of Grills health, the short bench, and a conference game on Monday all came together.

Watching the game we were lazy, unfocused, and disinterested on defense. Mizzou was able to put shooters in the corners (who often never moved), initiate a half-assed drive, then kick out for a wide open 3. In other cases they were able to pass there as the guy was wide open from the start. Poor discipline, fundamentals, and communication on our collapses, traps, and rotations. Ward was a loose cannon who looked like he was doing whatever he felt like. Senseless traps, losing his man, or bring the 3rd guy to collapse were routine when he was out there.

Offensovely we were nonchalant with the ball. Overdribbling, lazy passes, and a lack of movement. I'm not sure what our plan was with Osun as he rarely posted and we rarely made an effort to get him the ball. The few times we did it worked. More perplexing was we looked to get the he ball into Jones, who is useless, routinely. Made no sense whatsoever.

It was the very definition of a throw away game. When Kunc comes back, assuming Grill can also play, Jones needs to be limited in the rotation. I love the starting 5 of Osun, King, Holmes, Lipsey and Gave. When Grill can go either start him or bring him off the bench. Then have Kunc, Watson and Ward as the other bench guys. When Osun is out, have King guard the 5. Between offensive futility, defensive futility, TOs, and idiocy, Jones shouldn't be out there. He sucks.

I like all of this except for the bolded, haha. Whenever the following are a thing, we should just assume the opposite will happen.

-they don't play good defense. (Mizzou still looked pretty leaky yesterday but were also pretty disruptive)

-they're not good from 3.
-they have key players out.

CW said the team will probably just go straight to Lubbock which makes sense but that's quite a road trip. He also noted Tech may be favored. Monday is just another 'keep it close, have a chance at the end, and if you win get out of there asap' type of game.

Good effort to get there and sorry about the result. Jones is a valuable player. Period.

Jones has been struggling and something needs to change for him to be more effective but imagine having actual vitriol for a college kid because they didn't play a sport well enough for you.

I am concerned about the defense moving forward. We have gotten shot out of the gym 3 times this season, and two of those times have happened in the last week. We were fortunate to go 1-1 in that stretch. If the success of the defense really hinges on Grill being out there or not, then this teams ceiling is a bit lower than I thought a couple weeks ago. We simply won't be able to win many track meets with the offensive skill sets on this team, so hopefully we can get the defense sorted out asap.

Not seeing they did but the way they performed seemed like they did.
I didn't watch the game live, as I kind of thought maybe we'd see a result similar to what we got, due to the quick turnaround to an even more important road game Monday. But when I saw the final score, that was immediately what went through my head; they mailed it in. Upon watching the replay now though, I don't think that is at all the case. They just got run out of that gym, flat out. That mizzou team was a matchup nightmare for us

When have I ever stated I was mad at Jones?

Nobody questions his effort, but this isn't grade school T-ball where everybody plays and gets a participation trophy. Simply put, Jones has been a negative contributor in all but 2 games since conference play has started. When healthy, we don't need him on the floor unless foul trouble dictates. Osun and King can guard the 5 and offensively Jones is a zero.

Just because we all wish Jones doesnt suck doesn't make it true, or anyone "evil" for stating the obvious.

The Kstate game was more about 1 guy (Nowell) and our inability to contain him. More than shots, he dictated the pace of the game, which accelerated.

Yesterday the defensive effort and intensity just wasn't there. The loss of Grill hurts, but there was no awareness, communication, and spacing. Basically the entire team wasn't engaged. Osun, on both ends of the floor, looked disinterested and I've never seen us (blatantly) leave guys open possession after possession.

Everything about the game, from coaching decisions (inconsistencies with zone implementation), player decisions, to consistent effort was lacking. Having both Osun and Jones out there at the same time summed up this game in a nutshell. It almost felt like nobody knew what they were doing let alone cared.

Oh well. On to Tech (with a clean slate). About the only positives from this game were Grill rested, nobody else got hurt, and that Otz (hopefully) saw how well the starting 5 works. IMO I would keep King starting over Kunc once he returns. More versatile and a better defender.

I would continue to start the 4 guard lineup when Jaz comes back. Unless we are playing a big physical center, Jaz should come in for Osun. I think our rebounding will still hold up.

It wouldn't matter what Rob did, you would be after him with describing him as worthless, sucks, etc. The same thing happened last year with Gabe and Conditt. Somehow we just expect ISU to play with squad level depth and the players to play a certain way for 40 minutes.

There's just this weird emotional maturity of a middle schooler complex that goes on with grown adults toward college kids that at some point has to be at least a little embarrassing.

Rob is like the rest of the team; if he gets out of playing within himself, it can go south quickly. He's not alone in this and it's a pretty typical trait of athletes.

K-State is more about Nowell and Johnson. Sure, Nowell went off, but they’re not close without both.

Wrong, in my opinion.
