Yep, I didn’t look to see if it is still around nationally, just don’t remember seeing them in the DSM area anymore.

Still at Valley West and Jordan Creek I believe. Until they bulldoze VWM I suppose

I bought many video games from Electronic's Boutique (?) in Southridge Mall in Des Moines.
But Southridge Mall just might get a mention itself.

K-Mart has been mentioned a lot. The one in DBQ had a parrot that would talk to you when you ewnt in that department, had it for years. Also Zayre's, since that's an odd one, went there a lot.

Warehouse Market in Dubuque - write the price yourself on the item with red grease pencil, ride around on pushcarts with steel wheels that take the fingers right off your kids!

Also Irwin's in Marion. Got my first adult suit there, great suit, great service. Out of business now...

I went to school at ISU in the late 70’s and 80’s. I recently retired and moved back to Ames. The things I miss: Many stores at the mall. I worked at Sears ( if Sears doesn’t have it, you don’t need it!), I got groceries at Randall’s, I drank at the Hallway. I miss Dugan’s Deli and The Mandarin. I miss Fred the barber. All in all, Ames has changed a lot, but surprisingly little.

The Halllway on tequila tuesdays did not help my freshman GPA, but I survived it.

That’s my bad, honestly don’t remember seeing them around and thought they were out of business.

What was the arcade about 1 block east of Welch Ave in the early 80's? I want to say it was in a blue building.

Metro Omaha
Woolworth's and Kresges. Brandeis Dept Stores - Younkers bought them. When the Brandeis in downtown Omaha was closing up, I had a temp job there on the loading dock. Helped load stuff into vehicles. Got paid in cash at the end of the day.

Peoples Dept Store and Beno's Dept Store in Council Bluffs.

Beno's was a four or five story building. When you purchased something there, the clerk would write up your order and take your money, then put the order and your money in some kind of container and put the container on some kind of a pulley system and automatically sent it to the second floor to create the receipt. Once the clerk on the second floor created the receipt she would send it back to the clerk who wrote up the order and include any change. This method was used well into the 1970's, maybe even the 1980's believe it or not.

The Boston store in Ft. Dodge had a vacuum system like a drive thru bank uses. Thought it was the coolest thing when I was a young kid. I guess amazon is a better thing but some of those old department stores sure had good service and neat things about them.

Ultimate Electronics in Haymarket Mall. I spent too much time and money there when I was a teenager.

Bee Vee's hamburger stand / diner at 24th and Grand .. Ames Fruit and Grocery Store with the produce Mgr having a raised office to overlook the small produce department. His office was big enough for a stool and a slanted writing desk. But when he saw a small child he would step down and give out a tootsie roll to each child .. Green Pepper Pizza in campustown .. downtown JCP in Ames .. waldenbooks (?) In downtown ames. It had two aisles with a small book rack in the middle. Walk up one side and down the other. Dad would go there to get out of town newspapers .. Country Seat denim store at the mall .. Sports Page at the mall .. so many more .

What were the A frame gas stations along the early interstate? You still see some of the buildings with other businesses in then and most are really run down?
