I feel good about the game Saturday. I think Dekkers has a vibe to him that will have the offense loose and ready to play. Also being an Iowa kid, I think he will be jacked to play the game.

The other thing I like is that playing time is still up for grabs in a lot of spots on defense, so there is extra incentive for kids to play hard and play well.

If every ISU fan is being absolutely honest with themself, they know Iowa will not look near as dismal as they did last Saturday. Amazing thing what getting the wrath of your own fans (plus coaching adjustments) for an entire week does for their outlook. I'm more worried about how many times we'll have the ball inside our own 15, & facing that defense after another booming punt. Tall task for an inexperienced quarterback, but hopefully Hunter can remain poised, settle in, and have good success.
If Iowa’s offense is twice a good as it was last Saturday, I still like our chances. That’s how pathetic it was. Plus, the fact that Tyler Goodson and Charlie Jones are gone makes me feel good. Iowa just doesn’t have many offensive threats. They could win, but their defense and special teams will have to get it done.

I have zero doubt that we're a better team than SDSU. In pretty much every area. But I also believe that iowa is a much better team than they showed Saturday too. If both teams from Saturday show up the same, ISU wins by 14+. I have a feeling it's going to be a lot closer than that. Close games usually come down to turnovers and special teams or one big play. Hopefully those things go our way for once. But they haven't for awhile in this game.
The lion’s share of the reason Iowa is “a much better team than they looked Saturday” is because of how many skill players they were missing that game due to injury.

They aren’t miraculously getting them all back and up to full speed.

There’s also the scenario where the boos continue, and it leads to a QB change or coaching change. I remember Chiefs fans booing Cassel, and Haley, and Pioli. None of them are currently Chiefs.
Exactly. They go 3 and out a few time and the boo birds will be out hard. I keep hoping we score early and they struggle. It'll be like a home game at that point.

Bolded especially early in the year...the fundamentals tend to be lacking.

Honestly ISU winning basketball last year was more satisfying than if ISU even wins Saturday for some reason. Maybe it's because I can actually take Iowa's football players seriously.

But if I see another game that looks like ISU could be doing so much more it will be pretty frustrating. It's a new year, new 'era' with new players; it's time for CMC to throw out the process and let the team get crazy for an afternoon.
Heck yes! Love it.

If every ISU fan is honest with themself, they’ll admit that we’re a better team than the one Iowa floundered against last Saturday. Substantially so.

Some of you folks are so used to decades of hapless losing that when CMC has taken away every other crutch to support that experience, you cling to the last excuse to fail with both hands.

Clutching your nutcups.
You are aware of CMC’s record vs Iowa correct? We’ve had the better team on paper at least twice in his tenure.

ISU will not be able to run against iowa (book it), ISU will have to pass effectively, keep turnovers and penalties to a minimum and be decent in ST, if they do that ISU will win. Big if.

If week one is an indication, this is likely the worst Iowa team on paper we have faced with CMC.
They'll still win 8-9 games. I've seen this movie before. Petras or his backup will improve, their OL will improve, they'll get a few WRs back. And then they'll punt and intercept their way through the pillow fight that is the B10 West. Keep it close, wait for the mistake and kick a FG to win. That's how they've done it for years. B10 teams for the most part do not know what to do when their run game is stuffed. Outside of Purdue anyway.

McCarney beat iowa by making them cover in space. He knew that he couldn't just line up and run it down their throats. I hope that our coaches have learned that lesson by now. That's one thing that I like so far about Dekkers...he seems pretty calm back there and isn't going to run around trying to make something happen and gift them a turnover. If he throws a bad pass and it gets picked, that's fine, but just don't get all rattled and play crazy.

They will win 8-9 games because they play in the big ten west.

I think they could struggle with Illinois and Minnesota. Both of those teams look improved and they’ll be on the road. Purdue and Wisconsin both seem like losses at the moment. They’ll handle Northwestern and Nebraska though.

I had a very similar feeling/thought.

Dekkers looked super smooth and comfortable last week...granted, Iowa Defense vs SEMO will be a different level. I think X and Noel with the ball in their hands are always a move away from a big play. I could also see us trying to "uncork" a deep play. I also think Brock's energy from the second half will carry over.

As many have said, I hope we can early on get their QB uncomfortable. I know we tend to see "see that the offense gives us and adjust" in the past, but want their QB uncomfy and maybe sloppy and get an easy pick/strip sack.

Also....we didn't get to see FGs...but i hope we can get one BEFORE the end of the game type scenario.

I agree. What we don't need is for ISU to lay back and let Petras get comfortable by making a bunch of short passes. That's what they did vs TT, WV and Baylor last year. Mediocre QBs carving up the defense before Heacock adjusts at half. If we are down by 10+ at half, I don't like our chances being one dimensional and coming back against their defense.

Play up tight and force Petras to complete contested throws. If none of our guys can cover Bruce or Brecht, then we have some major issues at CB. Those two are bottom half B12 starters at best.

You know what else McCarney did? He brought pressure from the get go. A lot of stunts and blitz packages.

8-9 wins may be possible, but I think the team we will see Saturday will likely be similar to what played SD State last week unless there is a surprise player returning that we don't know about or Petras/Padilla have an out of body experience.

Padilla. If Iowa's offensive woes continue into the first half tomorrow, Kirk will finally give the backup a chance. And he'll probably light us up.

Bullsh*t. Plenty of teams do it all the time. Our inability or refusal to make defensive adjustments in the first half has cost us games.

Offense too. I know...stats, records, all that, but scheme vs. what's there has led to some weirdness in crucial moments.

Dumping it off to the RB is super boring but 1st downs and letting your playmakers do their thing in space is not.

The Okie State game in 2020 was weird in several different ways but I'll forever hold onto getting Hall to the outside/edge all day to win that game.
