Our defense has worked quite well the last three years vs Iowa. It’s our offense that’s **** the bed in turnovers and failing to put up points in the Redzone. And our special teams in just being horrible.
I wasn’t referring specifically to the Iowa game. More so conference games.

Ah my bad. Yeah I honestly want to see a tweak this year of some sort. Seems like we’ve been figured out by conference foes a bit. Need a wrinkle.

Nothing. Giving Iowa a Rose Bowl smack-down in Kinnick would be a wet dream come true. Just doesn’t seem very probable.
A team that can’t muster 200 yards at home against a 1aa team. Seems improbable they’ll win against a better team.

My biggest fear is we play soft on the corners, only rush three, and allow a horrible QB to gain confidence just dumping it off to wide open receivers who get 5-10 yards every time. I can almost guarantee that’s what happens in the first half. We typically don’t put a bunch of defenders in position to make a tackle and our first guy tends to miss a lot. I’m not trying to be Debbie Downer but I’ve seen this movie before. God I hope I’m wrong.

If every ISU fan is being absolutely honest with themself, they know Iowa will not look near as dismal as they did last Saturday. Amazing thing what getting the wrath of your own fans (plus coaching adjustments) for an entire week does for their outlook. I'm more worried about how many times we'll have the ball inside our own 15, & facing that defense after another booming punt. Tall task for an inexperienced quarterback, but hopefully Hunter can remain poised, settle in, and have good success.
They aren’t the 85 Bears. They’re getting elevated to legendary status by ISU fans with little to no intestinal fortitude.

That’s fair. I think we’re going to make Petras beat us with his arm. We’re going to stuff the run, and make him make throws. They’re not going to put up a bunch of points. I’m more worried about the offense. I think if we score 20+ we win. That’s all I care about. I don’t think they can score 20 (unless there’s a defensive or special teams TD)

I’d actually be fine with that. A major problem with beating Iowa is TOP and how they just want to run clock constantly. If they’re passing that ain’t happening.

If Spencer Petras plays like an all american, so be it. He hasn’t done it in his career yet. He will not be the reason they win the football game.

Bolded especially early in the year...the fundamentals tend to be lacking.

Honestly ISU winning basketball last year was more satisfying than if ISU even wins Saturday for some reason. Maybe it's because I can actually take Iowa's football players seriously.

But if I see another game that looks like ISU could be doing so much more it will be pretty frustrating. It's a new year, new 'era' with new players; it's time for CMC to throw out the process and let the team get crazy for an afternoon.

This is better stated than what I posted immediately following.

I mean it’s a bit overly simplistic to think your game plan isn’t working because of a drive or two. That is unless they score on like back to back possessions er something.

Now last year the game that comes to mind is TTU and I’m in agreement with you that allowing those little hitter plays was a death by a thousand cuts but then again, TTU has done that year in and year out against us and we’ve overcame it.

Maybe I was a bit exaggerated in saying you can’t do it on the fly. My bad on that.
Adjustments don't usually mean throwing your game plan out. It's typically minor things like spying the QB after he gashes you multiple times after breaking the pocket. Or trying to execute a trap block or delay against an overly aggressive defense. We're too stubborn imo. Those little ebbs and flows win games.

If every ISU fan is honest with themself, they’ll admit that we’re a better team than the one Iowa floundered against last Saturday. Substantially so.

Some of you folks are so used to decades of hapless losing that when CMC has taken away every other crutch to support that experience, you cling to the last excuse to fail with both hands.

Clutching your nutcups.

Drink.

Someone should seriously create a Cyhawk Bingo.

*Turnover in Iowa's red zone
*Long developing play when a dump off would have meant first and ten.
*Give up big play on D after holding things in check
*Turnover in ISU territory, leading to Iowa points.
*Special teams gaffe

Breaking News: Doesn’t matter who the “better team” is. It matters who wins the games.

I have zero doubt that we're a better team than SDSU. In pretty much every area. But I also believe that iowa is a much better team than they showed Saturday too. If both teams from Saturday show up the same, ISU wins by 14+. I have a feeling it's going to be a lot closer than that. Close games usually come down to turnovers and special teams or one big play. Hopefully those things go our way for once. But they haven't for awhile in this game.
