He's saying all the right things about stressing defense and competitiveness but Prohm did that as well so we'll have to wait until November to see how it plays out. Could be a struggle this year but he has the guards (Hunter, Kalscheur, Brockington, and to an extent Grill and Jackson off the bench) to extend our defense out to the perimeter on teams. It sounds like Kunc is a willing defender (and that could possibly be why it's hinted he's ahead of Hinson on the depth chart while Hinson struggles on D).
All that to say I think he's trying to build the way Baylor does - 1 through 4 positions are all willing defenders and can be switched almost interchangeably. Then you have your centers who can shot block and rebound and cover 30+ minutes depending on how much small-ball you want to play.
The guys coming in next year fit the same mold although it's tough to transition from high school to college, but Lipsey and King are athletic and noted as defenders as is Watson (struggled this summer with confidence but at 6-7 200 lbs, he's a prototypical size for a 3 and D wing).
