Most teams were up there to see 6'10 Canadian PF Luke Hunger. Northwestern offered soon after.

I finally got around to watching his highlights. Nice variety. Good outside shot, quick first step, good hands, solid passing, and made a nice quick back-door cut.

I thought he looked like a good prospect. With no offer or even reports of interest I'm not getting my hopes up Otz will offer him. Iowa was interested as well but backed off him too.

Yeah, he may just not fit what Otz is looking for.

Since game-changing centers don't grow on trees, I'm hoping he finds on some versatile 6-8/6-9 forwards that are mobile and active on the boards

I'm curious to see what kind of a team he builds in the upcoming years. Seeing some kind of an identity would be nice.

He's saying all the right things about stressing defense and competitiveness but Prohm did that as well so we'll have to wait until November to see how it plays out. Could be a struggle this year but he has the guards (Hunter, Kalscheur, Brockington, and to an extent Grill and Jackson off the bench) to extend our defense out to the perimeter on teams. It sounds like Kunc is a willing defender (and that could possibly be why it's hinted he's ahead of Hinson on the depth chart while Hinson struggles on D).

All that to say I think he's trying to build the way Baylor does - 1 through 4 positions are all willing defenders and can be switched almost interchangeably. Then you have your centers who can shot block and rebound and cover 30+ minutes depending on how much small-ball you want to play.

The guys coming in next year fit the same mold although it's tough to transition from high school to college, but Lipsey and King are athletic and noted as defenders as is Watson (struggled this summer with confidence but at 6-7 200 lbs, he's a prototypical size for a 3 and D wing).

I'd be perfectly happy with this strategy and hope he can pull it off. Watching opposing teams set up in the half-court and have 4-5 cracks at a basket while we flounder around has worn thin.

Recruiting top 100 HS guys is the primary way to build a team during the fall signing period. But a coach also needs a plan for signing a spring class due the growth of transfers.

Some coaches can be successful in the transfer market, but IMO it's hit or miss. Guys jump in the portal and commit in a matter of weeks and every big time program is after the elite players. IMO Prohm relied too heavily on the transfer market and didn't recruit JUCO's, Euros or Prep School kids hard enough.

I would assume from his 5 spot he eventually wants a guy he can run the offense through every time down the floor like teams he coached or was on the staff in the past. Guys like Niang, or Mike Daum. I have a feeling he has plans of Foster being that guy. I would think a 6'8-6'10 type of post who can defend well, can play on the block but stretch it out to 3 and be successful doing it. I may be totally off base but I'm guessing that's what he wants in a big.

I don't really see us going after a tradition 5 man. Fred, TJ and them all run the pick and roll where the stretch 4 can pop up a 3 pointer and use the mismatch.

I think we know how Otz wants to play, and we all know how West Virginia plays. If they want him. I want him too.

Couldn't find a new transfer thread. May need a new one.

This is an interesting target for a number of reasons.
He transferred to Georgetown from Eastern Kentucky this year. Georgetown kicked him off the team last week, saying he didn't meet expectations.

I trust since TJ is visiting with King next week that King's reasons for not sticking at G-Town aren't legal or attitude related. But the situation sounds a bit strange for a University to give a kid the boot mid-semester.

Tre King sounds like the type of player ISU needs- averaging 15ppg and 6rpg. He looks to have some range taking two 3 point shots/game and made 30%. But it looks like his strong suit is playing in the paint. Would make a good compliment to Kunc.

Hope he would be eligible at semester with eligibility for 2021/22 & 2022/23 seasons. The later being a super senior year.

Why not immediately?

Guessing it's because he has already taken classes at a different university. I doubt we could get him for this season. He already used his one time transfer going to Georgetown. Not sure how many years he would have left.
