I heard Brockington likely will be gone. Kunc, and Kalscheur are planning on 2 years.

Honestly, huge bummer there, I know it's only been one game but I LOVE what Brockington was doing in that game. Probably going to be my favorite player this season.

Tre will stay. It's always nice to always have 3 PG's on the roster too. Hunter, Lipsey, and Tre will be a great 3 man group to have at the PG spot?

I know the staff likes Jackson now.. But my guess is Hunter, Lipsey, King and even Grill will be the PG rotation going forward unless we are in on a all-conference level PG. Jackson is not a natural PG and more of an off guard.

Hunter is already the most important player on the 21/22 roster. He'll be 35+ minutes a game at PG going forward. Which doesn't leave much for Lipsey. Lipsey is a better defender now than Jackson ever could be. I guess we will see

I don't see Lipsey beating out Jackson.

Tre played well the other night but we've never really seen him consistently show he can play PG. Lipsey looks to be pure PG, especially early on, I don't think they will necessarily be competing head to head for minutes.
I just don't think Lipsey will be that good next year or play that much next year so I have a hard time taking minutes from Jackson.

I'm not trying to drag Jackson.. I'm just saying that PG is going to be DOMINATED by Hunter. Lipsey will back him up as he is a cornerstone to the future of this program. Jackson is an off guard who will compete for more minutes at the 2. Hard to have Jackson and Hunter on the floor at the same time due to wanting more size at the off ball guard spots

Yeah agree with this thought. Lipsey is a pure PG and while I love Tre's effort he is really a undersized combo guard and in my mind best coming off the bench as a spark. Add in TJ first priority once he became coach was to get Lipsey committed to play PG for him I see him having the backup PG role day 1. Hunter/King/Lipsey are the future foundation back court for TJ and he'll want to get them used to playing together as soon as possible.

Lipsey might beat out Jackson if he joined the team today. I think TJs vision is Lipsey/Hunter running together. Kind of like what Memphis does with Morant and Dillon Brooks. Brooks cleans up in that set up (I get that he’s a bigger dude than our two but the concept is the same). “Drive to open up the drive” thing. Depends on how Lipsey shows he can guard bigger players imo.

Maybe I will be totally wrong but I just think Lipsey is overhyped because of his early hype when he was a Freshman and the fact he is from Ames. His recruiting had pretty much dried up. I think if his name was Ted Jones from Smith, Kansas people wouldn't be thinking a 3 star guard was a cornerstone of the future of the program

I think his knee injury and his firm commitment to Iowa State was a large reason why his recruiting dried up. I won't say that he'd be playing over Jackson right now, but he's a guy that should definitely have the capabilities of playing year one. He's a true floor general with great athleticism and body control. He's a great finisher at the rim and his ball handling is elite. He's more of a true PG than Tre, as he's a textbook combo guard.

Tamin is a very very underrated PG.

Top 25 PG in the country (247). You don’t want that on an ISU team?

If they play at the pace they did the other night, then there are minutes for 9-10 guys. No need to run anyone off.
The pace wasn't the limiting factor, I don't think a few of those guys would have played much if not for 70 fouls.

Hunter is the current and future of the program at PG. Nothing against Jackson, he will be an important piece to this year's team and I applaud him for staying through the coaching change, but he's a below replacement value player in his career. That's just what the stats and everything else tells us.

Seriously, Grill? I like him for the effort and athleticism (and some shooting) he brings, but it seems like he has cult status on CF, with many projecting levels for him that he's nowhere near reaching. Again, I'm not down on him, but I just don't get the projection/fascination some have with him. Conditt has a somewhat similar following on here too.

Not trying to flame. Just don't get the extremely wishful views some seem to have for these two. They have their roles and are nice players to have on the team.

Grill played the most minutes for UNLV last season as the starting PG. TJ trusts him and will always play him. It's not just a CF thing it's a TJ thing.

And how did that work for UNLV last year? Not a knock on Grill because he isn't a natural point guard, but if TJ trusted him so much then instead of Tre.....he would have seen most the minutes at point when Hunter went out with 4 fouls.
