I also see LHP Austin Krob of Lisbon at #138, Miller at #158 and RHP Jackson Wentworth (Waukee/Urbandale) at #400, just scrolling through looking at the “State” box. I might have missed one.

OF Levi Usher at #345 (Louisville) is also listed as an Iowan, from Fairfax, Iowa.

I admit, I had to look up where that is.

Cedar Rapids Prairie kid...had a horrific injury his senior football season. Broken leg I believe...it was ugly and it only happened due to him hustling down field to make a play. Great kid! Been told by many that he was a good enough punter that he could have earned a D1 scholarship just for punting...that good!

At one time Moller from DBQ was projected as a 1st round pick.

He has taken a non-traditional path by playing on high-level travel team vs. high school for at least the last 3 years. He has also played in a number of the elite showcase events.

He has had an up & down spring and scouts have been much more critical in his evaluation and dropped from first round to around 125-150.

Just goes to show how finicky it is evaluating baseball prospects.

Moller is a strange case. Seems like a great kid, but his dad can’t shut his mouth on social media. He also looks like a kid who might’ve peaked early physically.

He’s still at all the major showcases, so some people still see him as a high-level prospect, but his draft stock keeps falling. Unsure what will happen with him in the draft, but I find myself rooting for him.

From the reports I've read, Moller's problem is not an early physical peak, but that his physical tools (power, arm, hitting) have not been showing in game scenarios recently. Tools are there, just need to be refined to come out more consistently in games.

Yep, he's been pretty up and down at Louisville so far. Good first year, struggled this past year. He's got some wheels

This kid is not going to ISU unfortunately. I am actually surprised he is even going to college. He was clocked at 96mph on his fastball about 2 months ago and has high MLB draft written all over him. IF he goes to college it will be Iowa to play 2 sports.
Of course you'd think that. I'll let him decide instead of you doing it for him.

You would think me predicting this over a year ago when not many people knew anything about his pro baseball potential and him not being mentioned in mob draft talk would actually be impressive but nope. Just bash it

Agree...what is there that slides him down to #77? Experience? Can't teach 100mph+...there are certainly organizations that would be thrilled to bring that talent aboard and teach him complimentary stuff!

Throwing 100+ isn't as rare as you might think, nor quite as important. It's all about the movement you can put on that fastball. A guy who throws 100+ but has no movement on it is easier to hit than a guy who throws 95 with a ton of movement.

That said, if I'm the kid and I get drafted in the first couple of rounds by an MLB team, I go play baseball.

While you're correct about the 95 mph w/ movement vs 100 mph and straight comment, I wouldn't say that throwing 100+ "isn't as rare as you might think." Only the top 5% or so of MLB pitchers can top over 100 MPH, with only a handful really being able to do so consistently. There are really only a handful of high school kids into the upper 90s approaching 100 mph (that's top velo, not average) if you trust Perfect Game's numbers. There's still a pretty large difference between 95 and 100.

So whatever happened to kids signing minor league contracts and still playing college football? Is that not a thing anymore or were they drafted from college baseball and not high school?

I want to agree with your 100+ comment but if you look at MLB today...it is all about power pitchers! The young pitchers come in striking everyone out until they blow their arms out! Organizations draft heat...rush it up to the bigs! Can MLB players hit straight smoke? Of course...but with analytics these days...speed guns dominate the scouting of pitchers.

I don’t think I’ve seen that for a while. Nowadays, they give baseball a try, then go to college football afterwards if it doesn’t work out.

I think the key was when MLB started adding a specific clause in the contract to pay for college. I saw one mentioned at 250K the other day. They really don’t like kids splitting time, that stunts development.

Moller was picked #103, early 4th rounder.
Probably past the point where Brecht gets picked, must not have hit his $ target in team talks
