Mike Daum made him successful at SD State much like Niang did for Prohm.Only reason TJ is on the radar is because he's familiar with ISU, is married to and ISU legend, has close personal ties to the ISU AD and was at ISU for one of the most successful stretches in ISU history. Besides being a successful head coach. Other than that....
Daum play at UNLV last year?Mike Daum made him successful at SD State much like Niang did for Prohm.
For anyone wondering:
Larry at Utah State:
Year 1: 14-13
Year 2: 21-8
Year 3: 18-15
Year 4: 20-9
Year 5: 25-8
Fine, but not lighting the world on fire.
Tim at New Orleans:
Year 1: 17-15
Year 2: 26-4
Year 3: 20-10
Each one had one big year. You don't expect year 1 to be great. Neither one exactly built some long-term culture of excellence.
Prohm had 2, plus nothing like the show we've seen the last two years. His Murray State years:
Year 1: 31-2
Year 2: 21-10
Year 3: 23-11
Year 4: 29-6
When I look at records coming in, Prohm was head and shoulders above the other guys. It's really not even close.
Those are Tim Floyd’s last 3 years (4,5,6) at University of New Orleans. Tim Floyd’s first 3 years with UNO they won the League all 3 years. Floyd was at UNO for six years.
You call 17-15 good?Daum play at UNLV last year?
Looks like an easy league to win:
19-11
21-11
23-8
I'm sleepwalking today, but that dude's record didn't match Prohm's.
Helluva lot better Coach though.
Well said.I would be curious what you do for a career.
I have never seen a business owner or high level executive totally turn over decision making to someone working for them. Some execs are micro managers, some are very hands off. But none has stepped aside when a big decision is made. It's not a matter of trusting, its a matter of where the buck stops if something goes wrong or if the subordinate's vision differs from the owner/executive.
If Jamie and Wendy HAVE A TRUSTING RELATIONSHIP, then Jamie would welcome Wendy's involvement & input.
Prohm’s problem is that players like THT, Wiggington, Halliburton, etc. leave as fast as they can for the NBA. They probably realize Prohm can’t Coach them up to improve. So move on. One or two year players don’t sustain a program. It is the very good 4 year players that build the foundation unless you are a Kentucky, Duke, or Kansas.
You call 17-15 good?
Coming in? Stay focused.
I have done so multiple times.
Let’s look at Prohm. He was head coach for 4 years at Murray State. Murray State has an extensive history as a feeder school for coaches. It is by far the best job in that conference and is a relatively easy job. While there he made the tournament once with two NBA point guards. One was inherited from his predecessor. He had a really good regular season record but a lack of postseason success. Before as an assistant he had some minor low level jobs with Billy Kennedy. He had one year away from him at Tulane.
TJ has extensive P5 experience as an assistant under multiple coaches and a couple of locations. He has good experience at SDSU as a head coach and some preliminary experience now at UNLV.
TJ was the main recruiter during Fred’s time here. His recruiting also fits our recruiting grounds which Prohms doesn’t.
Prohm of Murray State was no where near as good of a candidate as TJ is now.
Who gives a **** about players in the NBA. I'm interested in Iowa State winning basketball games, not how many assists Haliburton has for some scrub team out west.
So we now define success as barely .500??Besides being a successful head coach. Other than that....
Daum play at UNLV last year?
Yes. Gary Thompson agrees with me.
Morris didn’t get coached up- he got more volume. He returned because he wasn’t a first rounder. Where did he get drafted?Isaiah Cannon got coached up. Cameron Payne got coached up. Monte Morris got coached up. Tyrease Halliburton coached up.
THT got drafted. If Prohm were so bad at coaching people up, why on earth would Monte have stuck around for his last year? Does Prohm get any credit for turning Thomas into an NBA player (people freaking hated him before Prohm came along, bashing him, calling him a recruiting miss. Were people projecting Naz Long to be an NBA guy when Prohm got the job?
