Never fight someone uglier than you - keep my bar low. And the ears are part of that theme.

Sounds like Jones' lawyer is saying he was trying to deescalate, which I don't know if I fully buy because Jones is clearly saying "ohh what you got" as the mma guy turns to his brother. I think it's obvious Jones didn't throw the first punch, but rather it was his turtle-neck wearing buddy who pushed the mma dude from behind jones, as the guy who took Jones down was just looking away. My guess is dude thought it was Jones and just went off on him. If he was trying to deescalate, then do it for someone more worth it than Turtleneck-bro... and either way, you're an idiot for fighting in a college bar bathroom lol

I agree it’s pretty difficult to buy the claim that Jones was trying to deescalate based on that video. The look on his face alone is not the face of a peacekeeper.

Couple of lessons to live by in watching this video. First, if your wing man in a fight has on a turtle neck you are in trouble. Second, if you see a dude with cauliflower ears you best back up and walk away.......

Pat McAfee talked about the fight on his show and said that one thing he's seen in the last fifteen years with the rise of MMA- "If you see a cauliflower in a bar, don't f*ck with him.". McAfee's account is hilarious, as usual.

Testifying
As someone else mentioned the MMA guy wiped blood away from his nose before throwing a punch. I want to know what made that happen.

Also, Jones was totally being a dbag.

Too bad there weren't any cell phones around in the early '70's when the football players and wrestlers went at it a few times in bars at ISU. Some scary crazy bastards on those teams.

I believe, like a professional boxer, professional MMA fighters are not allowed to throw the first punch - but they are allowed to defend themselves and family.

Not exactly sure.
There’s definitely more to this story that we probably won’t ever know.

That said, you never know who is capable of absolutely steamrolling you.
Yeah, don’t fight a midget. I’ve seen them go beserk before. Also too easy to get nut shots if you are over 6’ tall.

Not allowed? By who? Some organizational rule or code? That’s goofy. Conner McGregor would like a word....and I’m pretty sure Mike Tyson hit a cat or two first.....

Several Iowa State wrestlers at my best friends bachelor party in mid 80s. Bus ended tour at strip club in Cambridge. Said wrestler gently picked stripper off the stage for an elevated lap dance and spin knocking table of beers off said large local boys. After gently repositioning said stripper bsck on stage wrestler offers to buy a round and locals said no. Punched said wrestler square in face and got no reaction from him.... for about 3 seconds. Ended very badly for locals. More to story after bus pulled over on way back to Ames by local Cambridge sheriff. Lots of cash put into deputy hat to cover damage. On we went. The good ol days.

I don't think there are special legal rules for boxers and MMA fighters in fights.

Same rules as everyone else. Just because you know how to fight don't mean you go by any other laws.

The only area where there could be a difference is if it’s like the end of the video with the Jean jacket guy. If they go excessive, they could be in deeper trouble since they would have better understanding of when a guy is incapacitated due to experience.

I mean I guess you can't play dumb as well when you have someone in a rear naked choke if you were to go to far.

Yeah. Jean jacket guy didn’t move much after head butting the wall and then they guy went off on him. That one could be an issue.

Surprised the old lady behind the bar didn't shoot somebody.
