I was slightly disappointed by Johnson's play today. ( I think we still need to give him a game or 2 since he hasn't seen live basketball in over a year), but was really hoping to see his shot improve (as well as shot selection). There were a lot of times that he just chucked it up for chucking it up sakes.

Dubar is going to be a player. Did a great job of moving his feet, playing good defense (and offensive rebounds were great, hope it translates to defensive rebounds too).

Bolton is who we thought he is a great player who is going to turn it over at times, needs to be a 2 guard.

Tyler Harris got it going after a couple misses good to see his shot go down. Going to need players to hit open shots

JCL - going to be a fan favorite if he keeps this play up. hustles everywhere, has a bit of a slow release but a really high release point. Going to be a ton of fun to watch.

The 5's - Disappointed in rebounding aggressiveness. I think these guys should have multiple fouls occurring on rebounds a game. We have depth at the position for once. Go get the ball. On offense giving them a pass here since we saw 0 man - man defense.

If Bolton can give is 7 assists to 2 turn overs every game till Jackson gets back I will take that every day.

Covid and a mediocre cyclone basketball team is going to make for a LOOOOOONG winter.

Keeping expectations very low, and hoping for a few bright spots.

Prohm is not going to change - I'm hoping the team can find some chemistry and hang in there against some really tough b12 competition this year.

I’m curious the thinking behind not having the stands behind the baskets. Obviously the guys have had a few practices in Hilton but you’ve got to think not have those stands might throw off shooting a bit.

Johnson's passing was wonderful. He forced it a couple of times taking it to the hoop, and his shot didn't fall until late, but he consistently drove in and then kicked it out to an open player. He kept the ball moving.

Agree on JCL and the 5's. We need Solo to return to beast mode like the final 6 or so games last year.

I think some criticism is warranted but Bolton had 7 assist, 2 turnovers we'll do just fine if he is putting up those kinds of numbers every night. Johnson shot poorly but the rest of his game was solid, his 5 assist were a bright spot IMO, I was encouraged by his ability to create for others. Surround him with guys like Bolton, Jackson and Harris spotting up and he could really open the offense up without having to score.

It wasn't a pretty win but certainly not the disaster some are making it out to be. My only concerns were the effort of the bigs on the glass (Foster really needs conditioning, hopefully he's just behind bc of injuries) and that it took almost a half for us to attack their zone.

I agree, but we also haven't seen a man to man defense yet. I think we learn a lot more on Wednesday on how Bolton will do as a 1.

Johnson kind of reminded me of Lucious in early games. Just wanted to be the guy. Which it can be a good quality, but it’s not when it’s not working lol. I think in time he will plan less selfish and make the smart play instead. I also think his shots will start to fall like they did at the end of the game.

Another opinion, JCL will be our go to guy with 3 seconds on the clock. Some of those pull ups late in the shot clock reminded me of Shayok. Not trying to compare them right now, but I think JCL could get a shot off whenever he wants to.

Haven’t had much to go on, but I thought Walker had a nice jumper as well.

I have been saying that since the very second he committed. He is a baller.

I thought it was a bit of an indictment of our program that JCL's hustle immediately jumped off the screen to me. He was playing at a different pace. We still have too many guys that look timid out there. Conditt looked like he just woke up from a nap 20 minutes before tip.

It's almost impossible to be 6'7"-6'8" 230 and get zero rebounds in 20 minutes against a bad team. I've never really watched Solo on the defensive glass. I'm guessing he gets a body into his guy, but never goes after the ball? Sometimes you have to use your athleticism to overcome bad positioning, a lazy blockout, etc. He's not a terrible leaper. Just weird.

Good luck with that statement! I’ve said that the last 4 years and have got attacked by the “he does so much more rebounding then the numbers show” Total BS - if you’re that big you should be able to get SOME rebounds. Young is a bad rebounder plain and simple!!!

You basically nailed it. He blocks his man out really well but that's all he does. When he want to go get a rebound there is not many guys that can stop him. He just rarely goes after the ball.

Ah........madduxsports.com. With all your expertise I expected a little more than this canned answer.
You don’t like the correct answer? Find me a spot where Ark-Pine Bluff is within 50 spots of Southern or NC Central.

This is an entirely different team. Last season has no base for 2020 when the same players are not in Ames.

ISU has one or two plus players on their roster in JCL and Bolton. IMO that's it. We'll see how it shakes out.

I think if Harris gets hot he will be a plus player. Not going to create for himself, but if he can consistently knock down open looks he will be good.

honestly looks the part of another Donavon Jackson.

Size will be an issue when trying to finish inside, but he looks quick enough and with the threat of his outside shot, he should be able to get in the lane and create for others. He had a couple nice drive and kicks yesterday. We're going to need him on the court.
