The talent is there to surprise some teams this year if they're all firing. They have a brutal schedule to contend with for a team that will need some development.
I’m not sure what is so brutal about the schedule. DePaul is the 9th best team in the Big East and South Dakota State is a nice mid-major. At Iowa and home against West Virginia are really the only two we shouldn’t win before January. People seemed convinced this is like Murder’s row. If you can’t beat DePaul and Kansas State at home then the bubble was never an option to begin with.

Why?

SDSU just lost to Saint Mary’s. At home.

is there something about Saint Mary’s I don’t know?

game was in Sioux Falls not at SDSU home arena.

SDSU has a really good player Doug Wilson who was the Summit POY who i worry will dominate our forwards.

Their HC was at ISU for a couple years and Bryan Petersen (ISU 07-09) was just hired there as an assistant coming from being HC at Kirkwood. Overall their coaching staff is very well regarded as solid tacticians.

Thinking more of the conference season. You're right about the non con schedule

South Dakota State is a solid mid-major but let’s not overstate their talent. We should win this game by 5-7 points. West Virginia shot the ball at a 38% clip and still won comfortably.

We haven’t practiced much 5 on 5 at all...APB had 2 games under their belt..APB hit some very tough contested shots..

Good: T Harris, JCL and Bolton from 3...last years team couldn’t hit a three until like game 4... literally.

Good: Dubar is gong to be a stud..If he develops a 3 pt shot look out.

Bad: Solo and Conditt..Solo looked like he didn’t have his legs at all..Conditt intensity looks same which isn’t good.

I thought all 4 frosh looked the part..Jaden can shoot and looks skilled..Dudley needs to be a player who is a Dustin Hogue player...Cutting to bucket and rebounding..period.

As poor as we played in first 10 minutes (not surprising) We still kept APB to fewer pts than #7 Wisc did.. It’s never as bad as it seems or as good as it seems.
Didn’t Wisconsin beat them 92-58.
Iowa State 80-63.

i do think ISU will win but they will need to be sharper than they were today

How about this one? Are you going to tell me Boeheim is a bad coach?

View attachment 78564

Are you telling me that Prohm has Boeheim’s resume? People act like the complaining is occurring in a vaccum. Like Florida AM didn’t happen. Like 9th and 10th place in the Big 12 didn’t happen in two of the last three years. But let’s compare to a one off game by a future Hall of Fame coach. Good grief.

ISU should be underdogs in that game.
Why? Because you are basing that off of an entirely different team that played last season? Your hate for Prohm, or actual talking points from this current season and roster?

This is an entirely different team. Last season has no base for 2020 when the same players are not in Ames.

You're basically right. We should start 6-3 or7-2. That all depends how the SDSU and DePaul games go.
Weber will grind so much in the KSU games that our usual struggles will be magnified. I don't count on that one, even though they're supposed to be terrible, too.
After that, it'll get pretty bad.

For example?

I think the good old... "fire Prohm" posts by some were made mostly in jest, but possibly not.

Other than that.... we played like total s**t the entire 1st half.... there was nothing good to take from it honestly. Even the 2nd half wasn't great..... albeit it was 10x better than the 1st half.

The 2nd half at least showed in spurts what we're capable of doing.... now it will just be a matter of trying to play like those spurts for 30-40 mins of a game instead of just a handful of minutes.

You didn’t even watch the game, so I am surprised you have all these take always from a game that once again... you didn’t watch. I also saw that you are now excited to see Dubar, because of some of the comments here. I myself posted some positive comments about Dubar, but here is a little heads up for when you watch him. He is not a game changer right now, he showed some raw potential and a high motor. So, please don’t go all negative Nancy on him when you turn on the next game, and don’t see him hitting half court shots and tomahawk dunks.

Yes, anyone can watch this team for a few possessions and conclude that there will be no defense or rebounding this year.
