Safety net. If no one in the NFL wants him, he's got a nice job to fall back on.

There was always going to be interest for him at the NFL level; if not as a head coach then certainly for an OC job. Offensive minded coaches are in demand right now at that level, especially ones who can incorporate aspects of a college spread offense into the NFL game.

Who said it was a bad move for USC?

Well they got applauded for hiring him as an OC, but there were people poo pooing the idea of him taking over as HC in the future. Basically saying, why should USC hire a guy as head coach who was fired from TTU.

Chip Kelly did pretty good until he peed down his leg in the playoff. ( I hate ND )

Sure. I guess it's on USC; they had to know what they were getting into when they hired him. Still kind of slimy on his part, but not all that surprising.
Meh. I guess it doesn't bother me that much. The word yesterday was that he was thinking of paying his own buyout out of his own pocket. If he did that, then he satisfied the contract he signed. Can't blame the guy for wanting to pursue an opportunity. He's taking a risk of not getting hired anywhere and still being out the buyout money. It's a cutthroat business. Perhaps KK underestimated his value. Gotta strike when the iron is hot.

I guess I get you now. Swann is incompetent. He should have fired Helton and just hired KK since it's clear that was what he was setting up.

They are really shooting themselves in the foot at USC. Then again, I don't know how good Kliff would have been as HC at USC. I guess he'd have an easier time recruiting top talent.

What was the main knock on Kliff at TTU? That he was all O and no D? Maybe he will be better off in the NFL not having to recruit. Just show up and run the offense and team the way you need to. Make sure you hire a good DC and maybe he will succeed.

Everyone wants to be the Rams. Sexy young figure head coach, with a brilliant mind for offense. They can hire whatever D coordinator they want and Kliff can handle the rest. I have no idea if he will be successful but I guess we shall see.

He lost 66-10 to a bad ISU team. In the NFL most DC are really good at their job. His offense is not bullet proof. It wont take long for the NFL to figure him out. If he can be one step ahead of them then he could do ok. There are 2 maybe 3 NFL coaches that can make that style offense work in the NFL, year after year.

I think it's crazy he got hired as a HC.
