Texas and Texas A&M not being in the same conference is an abomination.

Kansas and Missouri not being in the same conference is in some ways worse -- THOSE TWO FOUGHT A WAR WITH EACH OTHER AT ONE POINT!

Moving away from a regional conference to a quasi-super conference is a bad idea.

I feel bad for WVU that they had to do it, but they would be much better served being in a conference with like Pitt, PSU, Maryland, maybe UVA, and the like.

I just went to check out the mizzou message boards to see what they were saying about this and something called Tigerboard made my computer kill itself.

My goodness I forgot how bad that site is. They deserve everything bad that comes their way.

Mizzou athletics operated in red last year, first time since joining SEC

Several factors. One is dismal football attendance as people have lost interest in the SEC and continuing fallout from the football team protest.

Also it costs money to send every non-revenue sport to Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama etc.

Money from the tv contract is a little more. Lack of fan interest and travel expenses are eating that up and more. The grass isn't always greener.

I'm not seeing where the bolded was mentioned in the article or anywhere really.

Well in 2013 and 2014 they were profitable, according to this article
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/sec/university-of-missouri/article8564105.html

Looks like they were in the black in 2015 and 2016 too, according to this article

This appears to be the first year they've been in the red since leaving the big 12.

I live in CoMO and I can tell you a lot of fans did not want to abandon 100 years of tradition and move to the SEC. That decision was made because the people running the university who were not Missourians thought the SEC would be a cash cow and thought regional rivalries were old fashioned.

Tickets sold for basketball this year are up because of the hype surrounding the new coach and recruiting. Tickets sold for football are dismal and turnstile is even worse - around 35,000 turnstile for some SEC football games.

The fans are simply reflecting reality.

You sure? The constant SEC chants by the fans during their final year of the Big 12 seem to go against that.

Don't feel too bad for WV. They are getting paid and not on the cheap forgotten island that UConn is now on.

I agree that being on an island in the Big 12 is still better than being UConn, Cincinnati, or USF falling out of a major conference the last time around.

Still, that isolation is sub-optimal. Lots of great rivalries got broken up.

Yep, the TCU choice over Louisville still wasn't my preference and it would have given them a partner.

Well, our conference brothers need to nut up and schedule their rivals before conference play. We're not in the same conference as our rival; that's one less cupcake game for ISU every year.

The Backyard Brawl will resume for a 4 game series in 2022, however:

Kansas & Texas should find a way to get Mizzou & A&M back on their schedules.

I remember from watching Requiem for the Big East (one of my favorite 30 for 30s) that PSU was flirting with the idea of forming an eastern conference with football schools.

PSU, Pitt, Syracuse, WVU, VA Tech, Maryland, Rutgers, UConn, Boston College wouldn’t have been too shabby of a conference.

IMO, Mizzou can deal what cards they dealt themselves. Even though it would be nice to have another closer game in conference.

Meh. Their football program didn't transition to I-A until this century. And they ruined Seneca's senior day. Burn in hell, Huskies.

Which is too bad that this is all driven by football $$. Their basketball programs absolutely belong in the highest level
