Sad to see Django go, and I hope they resurface somewhere else. I always liked their no-corkage fee policy. Made for a very affordable nice dinner without the booze markup.

No corking fee is great. Went thereally for NYE because of that. Great happy hour too. Going Friday.

I eat a lot, and I mean a lot of BBQ; I would say Guru was one of if not the best in town. I'm back to a rotation of Wendells and Woodys since I work down town. The new Local Bites BBQ spot is actually pretty good as well.

Not really heartbroken or surprised by most of these. I always liked Planet Subs, but the service was never good. Goes to show with some of these places that while location is important, if you have bad food or service you’re not going to be very successful (I’m looking at you, Legends).

I agree with this but still am amazed that a place like Spaghetti Works has lasted so long. What a waste of space.
Goldfinch is another disappointment downtown imo.

I think Kued is pretty good.

Most of these places that closed tend to be non family owned with these hip new names. I'm a sucker for places that are family owned and have some old school feel to them. Barrattas, Tumeas, Noahs, Jesse's Ember. It just seems like they care about the food and service more.

I like Noah's but their interior is in dire need of a facelift. It isn't dirty or anything...just very worn.

I always forget about them since we moved up to Ankeny from Waukee. I had them the week they opened and I'd say by far best bbq I've had in Iowa meatwise. Their sauces though were pretty lacking, but I'm not a sauce guy either.

I am really surprised Taco Hangover has made it this long. They have had a coming soon in Ankeny for over a year. I assume the other locations are suffering and they don't want to over leverage themselves.

I enjoyed the new "R Taco" in Waukee but it doesn't seem busy very often. I'm not sure how long it will last.

We went to Taco Hangover a few weeks ago at lunch on a friday and it was empty. Like maybe 2 other tables in use at noon.

In an atmosphere of food trucks (taco trucks) being the uber coolness, Taco Bell running wildly successful marketing game, and a well established local chain (tastys) let’s open a bunch of taco restaurants owned by white people. Great plan.I never understand it.

It's been fairly busy both times I've made it over there for lunch. I don't know. It's hard for me say whether or not it's any good since both times it was a late lunch and by then anything would have tasted amazing.

I notice a familiar trend with this list. They have a successful restaurant and then they think they can add more. Jethros seems to be successful with about everything they do but the pizza thing was a reach and I think they've hit their max in the metro. I'm guessing Bacon,Bacon, Bacon is the next one out the door. I'm also going to say that Planet Sub in Johnston will not make 2018. Sounds like Pita Pit was more of a location issue.

Jethros Bacon is almost always packed.

I think the issue with The Pepperoni was is that it was literally down the street from another Jethros...Jethros overloaded.

It's fine. I hate bagging on them because they're always so nice. That place is one of my go-to spots for cold weather comfort food along with Christopher's and Simon's.

Both are great spots. Love me some Simon's.

Tasty Taco is trash. Yeah, I said it.

I don't get the hype at all. We tried it years back, didn't like it, and thought we should give it another try. Tried it again last month, still sucked, so bland.
