Well it was nice of Texas to bully us and give us equal revenue sharing on the tier one and two media rights.. Letting us make a lot more than we were before or what we would be without Texas.

At great reluctance. It only took four league members leaving.

Funny thing is, despite their vast wealth they've been in the bottom half of the league lately. Meanwhile- equal revenue sharing hasn't stopped Ohio State or Alabama's continued dominance.

More than anything, what got TCU invited to the Big 12 was the fact that they could join immediately. The Big 12 needed to retain at least 10 members or risk having the TV contract voided.

With TCU in, the Big 12 was allowed to keep its TV contract and allowed to later add two teams (any two teams) to the conference and keep the per/team payout the same.

Again, the motivation was (as it has always been and will always be)...MONEY.

The reason TCU was taken instead of others was their recent football success and BCS bowl berth. Their basketball team sucked. And TCU was competing in the Mountain West Conference. BCS berth and an afternoon of drinks by the TCU AD and Dodds from Texas led to their invitation. Louisville would have been a better choice. And a partner for West Virginia. Louisville played in the Big East along with West Virginia and would have been the logical fit. TCU added nothing to the football imprint. Texas just wanted to show Texas A&M by giving a spot to TCU.

Louisville was the obvious choice to be chosen. Good football, excellent basketball, excellent athletics, location. increased geographical footprint. The only thing TCU had to sell was their recent football success and BCS bowls while playing in the WAC......and a lot of drinks consumed.

TCU was taken by the Big 12 because circumstances dictated it, and they happened to be in the right place at the right time. TCU was the answer to bringing a 4th Texas school back into the fold after A&M bailed instead of Houston, SMU, Rice, etc. West Virginia was taken because outside of Louisville and Pitt they were the best option at the time.

That being said, neither school has much to look forward to in the event of the dissolution of the Big 12. Neither WVU nor TCU have the academics for consideration in the Big 10 or Pac 12, and both the ACC and SEC have made it abundantly clear neither are interested in WVU, and neither needs TCU.

WVU and TCU survived the last round of realignment because they were in the right place at the right time. They won't survive the next round (if it comes) and their success in football (or lack thereof) won't play any part in the decision.

If Texas left the first time around then Iowa State was either going to the Mac, or if they were "lucky" the Big East. You really think that's better than being in the Big12?

They were also a major contributor to starting the whole problem to begin with.
If Texas were not in the Big 12 10 years ago, the Big 12 would still have A & M, Nebraska, Mizzou.
(Not sure about Colorado)

Its like having a dictator bring "stability" to a country, at first it seems great but it never ends well

Nobody except the Big 12 was going to let them keep that stupid Longhorn Network, they did not keep the league together for the other schools, they did it for purely selfish reasons.

Still wondering what happened to the talk about the possibility of Central Florida joining the Big 12. Seems like it would be good for many reasons: 1) Florida market for TVs, 2) Florida market for players, 3) large institution with lots of money, 4) not much history to cloud its thinking.

Will reiterate they did it for Texas, they had already set up the Longhorn Network on their tier 3. It will soon be kicking them 15 million a year.

They had established a big revenue stream to offset what ever losses the revenue sharing gave them. And it really F'd over their biggest competitor OU.

Without Texas, as mentioned maybe we have a Big 12 Network because we keep Nebraska, Mizzou and A &M

Now Texas does not want to expand because with Tech and TCU in lock step with them they maintain veto power.

Adding 2 schools outside their tentacles, kinda takes that away doesn't it.

Every conference Texa$ has ever been involved with has eventually gone belly up. I'd sat the Big XII is headed in the same direction, for the same reasons.

**** Texa$.

Lol at the guy still trying to pump Northern Illinois as a Big 12 addition. I'd rather have West Des Moines Dowling in the conference

Considering he names Cincy, Memphis, and UCF the Philly market is the best of the bunch.

Touché.

I went to the blog post used as the source for the blog post linked (yes, people are posting blog posts about blog posts) and found this:
"The most important quality of any potential addition to the Big 12 is the size of the television market. This was the main reason that the Big 10 admitted Rutgers a few years ago. Temple blows most of the other candidates away on this criteria."

So it appears that there is an acknowledgement that Philadelphia isn't the best TV market among the expansion candidates. My bad.

Also of interest, I found this:
"UConn is trying to use its Jedi mind tricks to try to position itself as part of the New York city market, which it isn't."

Ha ha, so true.

Not saying I want NIU by any means, but with any school their popularity will grow to an extent if they join a P5. Especially with the resources they will add, and the win potential in the future.

Temple currently plays atLincoln Financial Field.. They are talking building a 35,000 seat stadium, they probably need to add 15,000 to that number.

I like Memphis if they bring in Fed Ex money. More in the heart of SEC country is good too. Lots of football passion I think they would get SEC fans to watch Memphis games and buy season tickets if they went to the big 12.

No to CSU, Cinncy, and Houston. CSU no population, Cincy, okay if I cannot get the other 2. Houston please not another Texas school.

Forgot UCF, probably throw them in the Cincy bucket.

Cincy is in B1G territory. Other than BYU, they also have the most loyal fanbase of the current candidates. I'd love to see a Big XII flag planted in Bucky's front yard.
