Diaz leads all of baseball in batting average and leads all shortstops in Wins Above Replacement. He's great. Not sure why he's still hitting 8th everyday. Should be somewhere 3-5.

I feel like Hazelbaker and Piscotty are relatively interchangeable in the order. Neither of them is hot right now, unfortunately.

Gyorko is a really bad defender. Holy crap. And his bat usually isn't enough to make up for it (unlike Diaz).

Gyorko has the 3rd best batting average on the team (min 30 ABs) at .289. Behind Diaz and Molina. His OPS is 2nd behind just Diaz. He isn't a great defender but he can score some runs.

100% agree with you on Diaz. He should be starting everyday around the heart of the order until something changes. And hopefully nothing changes.

Are you guys just ignoring the fact that Diaz has 5 errors (Gyorko has 3 as well)? Both have been hitting well but both are also defensive liabilities that have cost us runs and/or the chance to get out of an inning early.

Matheny will have his hands full when Pham, Tejada, and Peralta are all back at full strength and ready to play every day.

Unrelated note, really like having Jim Edmonds in the TV booth.

Diaz has the best rookie batting average in a given month in the past 25 years. He could have 10 errors and he would still be a "start every day" guy right now. He's almost hitting .500.

I'm enjoying Edmonds in the booth too.

It's amazing that the guy is batting .480 but has an OBP of only .509. I would think that pitchers would stop giving him pitches to hit and see if he has the patience to work a walk.

Don't get me wrong, I really, really like what Diaz brings to the table and hope he gets the D figured out soon; maybe just adjustment to the big leagues? I just thought it was odd that Gyorko, who has had more balls hit to him (in 18 fewer innings), has a higher fielding percentage and respectable .289 b.a., was labeled "a really bad defender. holy crap." (not by you, clonetone)

The Cardinals are dead last in fielding percentage, and lead the majors in errors at 19 in 18 games. Kinda surprised we're in 2nd in # of runs (only 8 behind CHC) and 3rd in avg at .276 (behind Pitt and Boston). 19th in runs against (20th in earned runs)

Your guys are a run-scoring machine. I assume you might just pass us in runs scored with more games against the Reds.

That surprises me too. Coming into this year I was expecting pitching to carry STL through mediocre offense, like last year. Definitely not the case. So far it's been lots of runs but mediocre pitching and bad defense.

Leake has not been great pitching but the biggest disappointment by FAR for St. Louis so far has been Wainwright. In his four starts he's 0-3, pitched only 22 innings, and has an ERA over 7.00. The good thing is... it's Wainwright, so when he figures it out there's a lot of room for improvement there.

Clonetone I think you were the one who talked up mlb.tv around opening day. Much appreciated. Love that I can watch almost every Cardinals game, even while at work...and casually watch other games at any time.

Interesting thought on the table on the Cardinals Scout forums that Diaz may be hitting so hot because he's in the 8-hole. I'd like to see him get moved up and get him more ABs; best case scenario he keeps rolling, worst case he cools off and goes back to 8th. Hell even if he "cools off" to .280+ just getting him more ABs than at the bottom of the order would be good to see.

I thought MLB.tv was blacked out for Iowans
Yes, for six teams. Royals, Cubs, Cardinals, White Sox, Twins, and Brewers. You can watch every other team. Works great if you like a team from the east or west coast, but not so great if you like a midwest team.

Definitely something I'd like to get sometime.

The PlayStation Vue would get me most of the Cubs games. Not sure how it would do for Cardinal games though.
