It's possible we're all burying the lede here, because this line from Hines' Twitter feed could possibly have NCAA repercussions for all sports (if proven true): "Moody's lawsuit also alleges that ISU athletic dept. 'only wanted athletes to pursue majors that could be manipulated by athletics staff.'"

To be honest, I think that 95% of schools would be in trouble if that were a real issue. I don't think that's a good thing, but I am guessing most schools get athletes in majors that are accommodating, depending on the sport.

Well that should be easily verified or proven false.

On a different but same not though it is pretty cool that 2 Senior Football players are Aerospace Engineering majors.

Huge respect for FB players who do engineering. Balancing those two is no easy task.

Sounds like she's also accusing Fennelly of cheating too. Quote from Hines said they wanted players in majors they could manipulate.

Oh great. We're gonna take it up the *** for North Carolina now.

I think the line is where it gets personal. You want to be tough on someone for their on field\court failings? Sure. Make it personal and involve things beyond that and you've got a problem.

Agree, but what if a players actions off the court (performing bad in school, being a bad teammate off the court, etc) fail? Can you still be tough regarding those items?

This is my first post in a few years - started following your team after we played you in NCAA tournament - we had a similar discussion on our board... just thought I would share my thoughts ...

This is probably a very subjective and a cases by cases discussion - today I saw two articles about women's coaches being investigated by their schools for "mistreatment of players" - What constitutes mistreatment now days? Yelling? Cussing? Making them run laps? Calling them names like stupid, idiot, worthless??

Throwing balls at them is a no no, hitting them in anyway is a no no, and not even going to bring up Tyler Summitt because we all agree and understand that.

Have kids become so soft that they can't separate what happens on a athletic field from real life?

I have used myself as an example before and will again - all my coaches whether it was soccer, basketball, or baseball - yelled at times, or called me names, or made us run until we puked. But in all cases (at least as I remember it) it was about my performance on the field - "you play like a piece of S$#t, what the F#$@ where you thinking Nomar, you can't be that stupid Nomar run the correct play......etc believe me it was worse. But in each and every case I like my coach as a person - I knew that I could go to each one of them if I was in a jam or needed to talk, I knew that they had my back and would do whatever they could to help me.

It seems that there are no more "mental tough" kids out there they all want trophies for showing up, they feel entitled to be treated a certain way.

This will be good. I knew her for a bit her Sophomore year. She definitely had an attitude on her. Not saying she's wrong, she just drove me crazy sometimes.

i don't know her or the situation but most people I know who "others are out to get" are huge jerks or idiots, or in general don't play by the rules.

Whether is true or not, Bill Fennelly's treatment of players will be under a microscope, and even his stanchest supporters can't deny that he has a history of abusive language and questionable antics. Honestly, I don't know how anyone that witnessed the Schroll scene can defend it, and I don't know how anyone can sit within earshot of BF during a game and not cringe.

Because we live in Iowa. The Midwest in general isn't exactly a shinning example of diversity.

More diversity on the team Moody's senior year then on campus or in Iowa generally. 7 of the 14 players were black. Early on in Bill's tenure I was wondering why all blonde gal rosters but don't really ask that question now.

Once you've been accused of being a racist there is no turning back..ever...His time at Isu is over..I have no dog in this fight...don't know anything.. but in today's age it's nearly impossible to overcome a racist charge whether true or not.

You feared them? Seriously?

Yeah, I wouldn't work for anyone I feared.

I was afraid to disappoint them, cuz you knew they'd be on your ***.

At the end of the day though, if you've given a solid effort these same coaches would be the first to acknowledge how proud they are of you; which was far more rewarding than pats on the back even when you know you're not giving your best.

Step 1: set up rules & punishments
step 2: make them follow the rules
step 3: if they don't, enforce punishments

none of that involves being an *******.

Sure. But take it behind closed doors and be a professional about it. Why would we expect anything less from our coaches than we would expect from someone in a professional workplace setting?

you can not want to disappoint a nice person, too. I couldn't care less about disappointing an *******.

For those who don't know, can you please explain the story? I've seen Schroll mentioned a couple times, I assume that is a former player?

Once again to each their own. We'll agree to disagree.

Maybe part of my okness with having a coach be a **** is my twisted sense of humor. For example when a clip board was thrown at me on the sidelines I thought it was funny or when a coach swore at me so incoherently that he was just making up new swear words I thought it was hilarious.

everyone is different. Being a tough coach is different than being an sbusive coach or a racist.
