Is there still hope for Sage as QB coach? I'm not high on sturdy.
But you're high on someone who's never done anything related to coaching or recruiting.

Ok, lets save some money in the football program. Let's hire everyone from Toledo so we can save on printing new playbooks. Just get some I-State stickers to cover up the Toledo logos on them.

I think Campbell has about a 2 year window to capitalize on the current roster. I truly believe there's some talent on this Iowa State roster and if he can capitalize on it in his first couple years then that will give him an opportunity to build off of it and do something with the program. That's why this inexperience is a concern to me. I don't think this is a situation where there can be a learning curve. If he can't capitalize early then he may miss that window.
I'm seeing better talent than we've seen in years come in rather quickly, so if they can keep that up I think you are wrong. As far as coaches go, I like Campbell, and I'm talking about the coordinators following suit if they aren't quite ready yet. He's bringing in the talent he wants - and has succeeded with.
Well we're not competing with ISU teams of years' past. We're competing with other B12 schools. Go look at other B12 schools' recruiting classes and see if you think we can still get by on talent alone without quality coaching.
Exactly. Look what happened when we all thought Mangino was a homerun hire with tons of experience.
What does this tell you? People can hope in one hand and **** in the other. Reality is that it's a monumental task to turn around the Iowa State football program and anyone who honestly believes Matt Campbell is the guy that's going to do it is probably not being very realistic. As fans of course you hope that is the case, but there's a difference between hoping and being realistic.
Campbell won some at Toledo, but Toledo was arguably the best coaching job in the MAC with all of the talent they have around them in Ohio. Iowa State is a completely different story. Quite frankly, it probably doesn't matter who these assistants are that are being hired, but it certainly should raise some red flags when he's bringing in guys who have very little experience at this level. Especially when he himself has very little experience at this level. I mean maybe that's what is needed, but again there's that pesky reality to deal with.
What was baby Jesus like in real life?
So we should just drop out of FBS and hope to win some FCS championships?
I have a feeling Campbell and his assistants will do the best freaking job they can do. That's all we can expect from them.
What else can we hope for? Throw 8 million a year at Nick Saban and hope he comes here? Nope. We get the best coaches we can who will recruit the best players they can and go to work.
Of course it matters who the assistant coaches are. To **** on them just because they came from Toledo is pessimistic at best, and stupid at worst.
Any other OC we could ahve brought in would either have been a lower level OC or someone from a staff who just got laid off. Campbell chose to go with an up and coming OL coach who we might have lost in a couple years if we didn't promote him.
The coaching staff knows a whole hell of a lot more about football than anyone on this message board. Give them the benefit of the doubt.
If they can't get it done, then we hire new coaches in a few years. That's how football works.
Id be very curious to see how he would do away from Alabama at this point. He's gotten pretty comfy up top.
Sorry to rain on your parade, but it's not my fault if you aren't willing to face reality.

We can pump the brakes on this narrative because it's really not true. The best four players in the 15 class were better than anyone we have in the current class. I'm as optimistic as anyone about the current staff's recruiting but saying they have a bunch of guys coming in that are much better the our past couple classes isn't true at this point based on the data we have.
