This one concerns me. Makes me feel that CMC had others turn it down and he did not have any other options at this point. I would think the CMC would now be very involved on the offensive side of the ball now, but not sure if that would be a good move either.

The head coach should have good expertise on one side of the ball and with CMC it should be offense, so he can help bring Manning along. When I've seen video of CMC when he was at Toledo he had what looked like a playbook hanging from his belt, so maybe he stays involved with the offense anyway. Not that unusual for a head coach to be actively involved on the side of the ball where he has his expertise.

It's pretty easy for me to envision this. Starts out with three or four seasons without any bowl games and gets fired. That would be worse than CPR.

I'm not predicting this, but the fact that CPR made it to year seven means he did something right at some point. I think Campbell will be successful here, but it's very likely he won't have as good of a tenure when all is said and done.
I don't see how that would be considered successful then.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really give a **** about football right now. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for the new coaching staff and the new blood. But I've heard all of this analysis before, and things like hiring Mangino had all sorts of hype, and look what happened. I won't be excited until they win some games and act like they belong on the same field as OU and the Texas schools. I would like to see some other hires not from within Toledo, but if it works, it works.

We've seen where nepotism has gotten us before with the two previous coaches....not doubting CMCs decisions, but some outside seasoned blood on the staff would make me a bit less concerned.

Just keep recruiting like they are and the coaches will be an afterthought. Talent will win over, and the coaches will follow shortly behind if they aren't ready for it right away.

I can't say I am confident with this choice. Time will tell I suppose. Would love to see Sage a consideration for QB coach if interested.

At a place like Iowa State, that's never going to happen for football. If this isn't a well coached team and well organized from the git go, this will all go down in flames.

**** it. Youth movement. I'm all in.

I was okay with it when our most recent POTUS was younger than me. But now our HFC and most of his staff are younger than all but one of our KIDS.

Gawd I feel old some days...at least Prohm is the same age as our oldest...

I prefer a staff that has worked together rather than working with this guy here and that guy there and trying to mold them into one. They'll be a learning curve but I think he's ahead of the game because these guys have already worked with each other.

Oh, whatever. At this point, we just have to trust that the coach knows what he's doing. Outside the box tactics might actually be what's needed to turn this thing around.

Exactly. Look what happened when we all thought Mangino was a homerun hire with tons of experience.

I'm seeing better talent than we've seen in years come in rather quickly, so if they can keep that up I think you are wrong. As far as coaches go, I like Campbell, and I'm talking about the coordinators following suit if they aren't quite ready yet. He's bringing in the talent he wants - and has succeeded with.

Yeah. I think CMC and Company know what they want to run on offense. They should have a cohesive gameplan. Outside ideas from the future QB coach (maybe Sturdy) might help too though.
