BYU would at least be a nice place to go in the fall.

Nothing like a DRY Tailgate at Lavell Edwards' Stadium. Alcohol is NOT allowed in the Parking Lots. IMO, that means it would pretty much suck. Coffee probably even has to be Decaffeinated.

You are right. Forgot about that part. Definitely a downer. Would have to stop in Colorado and get high first or something. University of New Orleans would be an alternative.

Please, no... i want the big 12 to stay at 10 schools (just get permission for a championship game from the NCAA which i would have to believe they would grant to avoid this whole mess)

The NCAA is going to defer to the P5 conferences, and Big 10, Pac 12, SEC, and ACC will never allow it. You might as well get it out of your mind that somehow we're going to get a championship game with 10 teams - it's NEVER going to happen.

If the Big 12 wants a championship game, it will have to add 2 members.

We aren't adding them, but Memphis football does deserve some credit. They are AAC Champions at 9-3 (7-1) including a 41-14 win over Cincinnati.

They can get credit for that. However, conference realignment decisions aren't made based off of recent success in football. They're made based on the TV market that university brings, it's history, and an academic ******* contest among university presidents as they decide which universities they want people to associate with their own university. It is university presidents making these decisions after all.

Personally, if the Big 12 is going to add more schools that are not peer institutions to Iowa State (like the universities we lost in Mizzou, A&M, Nebraska), I would prefer those new universities to be fantastic universities.

I'd prefer us to stat at 10, personally. However if we're forced to add two, as an ivory tower academic myself, I'd like Tulane and Colorado State to be considered. They will both have new stadiums, bring decent markets, are good research institutions, and so on. CSU is a land grant university. Tulane is an AAU school.

Honestly, I'd rather see UCF, USF, ECU, Tulane, UConn, New Mexico, or Colorado St added before Cincy, Memphis, or BYU.

(Actually, I'd rather see that 24-team Big 12-ACC merger, but that's another thread)

If TCU and Baylor get left out of the playoff, we may have to take this discussion more seriously.

No, no it's not.
Looking like it to me. We did not roll over enough in our game. We cost the league millions by making them punt a few times. The OSU beatdown was a game for the ages. Wiscy looked like Iowa trying to punch out of a paperbag.

I like it. Bringing in the Ohio region would be good, and Memphis has a B12 feeling to them. Can you imagine?

B12 North- Iowa State, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Kansas, Kansas State, Memphis
B12 South- Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State

YES please.

PS, People hating on Memphis, what does ISU bring that Memphis doesnt? Memphis just won their football conference this year, and besides a down year this year, they are usually really solid at basketball.

Cinci's OK. BYU, UCF, or even USF would be better additions than Memphis U. You know, Notre Dame isn't totally out of the picture, as they aren't full members of the ACC; I know they see the writing on the wall by now.

BTW, is this Realignment Thread 3.0?

FYI

University of Cincinnati's Nipper Stadium seats 35,000...starting to use Bengals stadium.
Memphis = Liberty Bowl 61,000
Tulane = 30,000
Colorado State just approved a new stadium that will seat 36,000

Big XII was adamant in its rejection of the commuter schools last go around and nothing has changed to make those schools more valuable to the league in that time.

I think the NCAA allows the Big 12 to have its championship game with 10 teams, no divisions, considering all the other playoff candidates have a body of work of 13 games to be judged upon, whereas Big 12 top two only get 12 games.

There will be real resistance against it among "top" schools in the league because they've been burned by a CCG before and know what that's like, too.

This train wreck is awesome to watch.

Clearly you are clueless because acc and swofford are also petitioning to end rule.

Here nor there
I wonder if an undefeated FSU team getting left out of the playoffs for 1 loss B12, Pac12, BIG teams would help start some realignment fires. From a B12 perspective, that would be a double win.

If the Big 12 is going to expand it has to be with teams from other Power 5 conferences so that you can maintain the same revenues. Otherwise, there is no way that the schools will add teams. National perception is one thing, but the bottom line is what the TV rights are like.

If Florida State is left out of the playoff maybe you could get them and Miami or another ACC team to come aboard. Maybe you can get Arkansas. I don't know, but if you add Memphis and Cincy it will look like desperation nationally.

Frankly, for ISU's sake I wish we had ended up in a hybrid Big 8/Big East league for football competitiveness sake, and adding Memphis and Cincy would give us two teams we may be able to beat in football. Nationally though it would not be a big splash, and I don't think it would be worth it.

I have been asking this same question... Other than being an AAU school and recently being good at basketball, what does ISU bring to the Big 12?

we should be accepting of other schools and be happy that we are not in their position trying to get into a Power 5 conference because ISU probably wouldn't even be mentioned as an addition if the roles were reversed.
