So what is the real reason? WSU is good. Losing to them wouldn't impact KU. The Shockers ended the series back in the 90's when they weren't any good. They want it back now that they're competitive again. Call it arrogant or whatever, but KU is the Big Dog in the state of Kansas. If WSU wants the game so bad, then they're going to have to do it on KU's terms.
Agreed. Losing to Wichita State right now would not be considered a bad loss. And losing to them isn't going to create some seismic shift in local recruiting. It's not like eastern Kansas high schools are putting a dozen kids into ranked, major conference programs a year. Everyone loves the notion that the "Big Guy" is scared of the "Little Guy" but it's simply not that interesting of a story. KU recruits nationally and uses their non-con road trips to get in front of different recruiting areas of the country. @ Georgetown in DC and @Temple in Philly this year where we've had some good luck pulling kids (Robinson and the Morris twins).

Fear that losing to WSU is:

1. Embarrasing (especially if at home).
2. Could potentially make WSU steal some KU recruits.

If you are the big dog, with the high recruiting class, and playing an opponent which would not negatively affect your RPI, then what is the problem? Spank them and put them in their place. Instead Self is being a ***** about it. Be a man.

Again, why play in Wichita when you can go to Philidelphia, D.C., or SoCal?

Fear of embarrassment of losing to a ranked team at home prevents KU from scheduling tough home and home series? Then why did they schedule that home and home series with San Diego State last year. Or Michigan State or Ohio State or... And if KU loses a recruit or two to WSU because of the results of one specific game then I am just fine with that. There's plenty of good recruits lined up right behind them to take that spot. Sorry but this just doesn't hold water. "Spank them and put them in their place...Be a man" is the reasoning of irrational fans, not of successful college basketball programs. If Self misses out on an elite recruit because he was too busy "being a man" then he should be fired.

I don't see any incentive for KU to play WSU other than the fact that it would be a great event. I really have no problem with KU making them play on their terms.

I mean, we're doing exactly the same thing with UNI and Drake...

We play UNI and Drake in neutral courts. We actually play UNI, which I know KU probably does not want to play... :jimlad:

If ISU wants to waste one of their non-con dates, that's on them. I think I'd rather that KU use their non-game games in a more productive manner.

Because none of those teams are considered "Little Brother". I don't think KU fans would take losing to the smaller interstate school very well.

So far you all are batting zero on trying to find reasons to bash KU. Put ISU in KU's shoes, and we would do the exact same thing. Nothing to gain with WSU.

We survived the occasional victories by our "Little Brother to the East" when Mizzou would steal one every now and then and I can 100% guarantee that their fans were more annoying about it than the WSU fans would be. Not an issue. Besides, Self's job isn't to prevent us from being heckled by annoying rival fans when he schedules games. It's his job to A) keep KU on national TV and B) in front of and desirable to elite recruits. It would be nice if he also won all the non-con games but honestly, that ranks behind A) and B) for me.

And overall, ISU's non-conference SOS is considerably weaker than KU's. It's not like KU is ducking WSU to play Mississippi Valley State.

That's okay, just keep getting called out by Greg Marshall. You might have some regional reasons for not playing them, but to the rest of the country it sure looks like dodging them.

LOL, that's awesome.

Yes, avoiding the wraith of Gregg Marshall is priority #1 for KU.

There are 6 other teams joining KU in the preseason AP Top 7 and KU has games scheduled against two of them. Anyone who thinks KU is dodging tough non-con opponents is just embarrassing themselves. You can draw any number of silly conclusions from KU not having interest in a series with KU. It doesn't make it fact. And Gregg Marshall? Eh, OK.

The only reason they don't is because WSU has more options than UNI or Drake. ISU is going to get rid of these two games here soon or at least wants to unless every game is played in Hilton.
