There is no more faithful, supportive fan base on earth than that of the Cyclones. The tailgating is fantastic and game attendance is awesome as demonstrated by a full stadium.

Thank you. Sometimes on here however, I don't think we have the greatest fans....

Other teams fans would have a third of the stadium or more empty by now, for every game. We are still packing the Jack for a likely loss to #7 Baylor.

I tend to agree with you at times, however over time I've realized what message boads truly are and their use as an easy platform for the vocal minority. Therefore, I've come to the determination that the only true way to judge a fan base based off its message boards is to do it relationally to others. To do this, it really only takes about 2 minutes browsing other boards to realize how terribly ruthless nearly everyone elses boards are compared to ours. Most of them are truly complete embarassments. Therefore, after doing that study, I do a little less judging of our boards and simply utilize much more of my ignoring function when things get a bit ridiculous on here.

I try to avoid the over the top reactionary posts right after a loss.

You should absolutely know better than to use the internet as a true measuring stick to gauge a fan base. Instead, read what the OP said. Most of us haven't witnessed a home victory in 2 years. 2 years, guy. We continue to show-up like we're a top 25 team, however. We're a proud bunch that, regardless of how bad we seem to be, loves our team. The attendance numbers don't lie.

Anyone who says ISU doesn't have great football fans doesn't get it. we have no tradition, half the season is cold. We spend most seasons at .500 or below. Could you imagine Iowa's Stadium if they had our last 5 years of performance?
Coaches would be fired. 40-50k fans would start the game and by 3rd Quarter half would leave.

Imagine that at most BCS Schools that are traditionally middle of their power 5 or above. I think we hold our own...

Agreed. I still remember listening to every game the year we went 0-10-1 (early 90s, friend of mine played on the Oline). That said, it would be nice to start complaining about the bowl game choice and not whether we'll get to 3 or 4 wins.

That wasn't that long ago and we can get back there.

ISU has the best football fans in the country, no doubt about it. Look at the fanbases of Purdue, Indiana, Kansas, etc and compare it to ours. Our fanbase is in the top half of the conference, despite finishing in the top half of the conference, what 10-15 years ever?

ISU football is a powder-keg ready to explode. You string together 3-5 years of 7+ wins and we will see this fanbase and program where we never could have imagined. The building blocks are in place, we just need to put all the pieces together.

I think BWR was referring to "fanatic" posters, and the meltdown threads during & following a loss.

As for me, I simply avoid the game day threads...and thank my lucky stars that we have such an excellent team of admins for when the meltdowns overflow to the other threads. :)

No more evident than @ Ann Arbor a couple weeks ago vs Utah. After a 2 1/2 hr rain delay, Utah began to thrash the Wolverines.....and 2000 fans were left in that huge stadium toward the end

I agree with this. My gf is a Nebraska fan (yeah, I know its something I had to get over) her family always likes to take shots at ISU: JTS/ losses to FCS teams etc. I always rebuttle with the argument of compare Iowa and Nebraska. Nebraska has one major university in the entire state. Iowa has 2 heck you could count UNI as a major university as well. This means you have to compete for your fans. Compete with Iowa to the east, UNI to the east, and Nebraska to the west. Factor in that ISU has little to no history in football and are coming off a 3 win season and most teams would be lucky for 30,000 fans show up.

Other teams can mock the team/facilities all they want but as soon as they start calling out our fans that crosses the line and I unleash hell. If I was CPR/Pollard I would be thanking the ISU fans weekly that they still have jobs because anywhere else these results wouldn't allow us to expand the south end zone and FREAKING INCREASE CAPACITY!!!

You don't have that vocal of a negative minority unless you have a good fanbase. People don't spend that much energy on venting their frustrations if they don't care about the program. The difference our angry message boarders and a team like Michigan, is that their angry fans probably jumped on board when the Wolverines seemed like a sure thing to be successful forever. Iowa State fans on the other hand, from the biggest sunshine-pumper to the most bitter poster on fanatic, are all united in just the idea that eventually something good is going to happen for this program. The fact that we have this large of a fanbase based just on that, it is pretty incredible.

Don't get me started on those people. If you make a point to tell everybody about what an awesome thing you did, you kind of ruin it.
