So is Frank Martin still the worst coach ever?

Look, I'm not setting out here to be a smartass with this post, and I had USC winning in all of my brackets.

But I hope those of you who equate being a first-year head coach with being a bad, unworthy coach are eating some crow right now.

Lets see how he does with his own recruits. He is probably a decent coach but it didnt hurt to have the Beas and Walker around.

I still wasn't impressed w/ his coaching some of his players were out of control, and he shouldn't have left Beasley in w/ 3 fouls in the first half. He got lucky, and his players played great, especially Billy Walker.

Hey, I agree with you and have all season. People have made Martin out to be some flunky who couldn't coach at all. Considering 6 of his top 10 guys are young he's done a fine job IMO. I didn't think they'd win tonight and their role players really stepped up tonight.

I don't think too many ever claimed he was the worst coach ever, just the most unproven to get that job. Everybody knows why he got the HC job and it's pretty much a joke. He has some good talent and he's got two options - use what amazing jump-start on a career he was given or **** it down his leg like many think he'll do.

Well, something tells me that Tim Floyd and the Trojans probably aren't laughing too hard right now.

Martin is my Big XII Coach of the Year. It's not just two players - it's the whole team. Look, two of Beasley's first three fouls were bogus, and the team didn't crumble. Martin's squad is intense, unselfish, and plays DEFENSE. Brackins, for example, would have to really rev it up to play for Martin.
Floyd is deified on this board; he was the second-best coach tonight.

Wow; I'm impressed - didn't think Floyd would lose this.

I'm more convinced that Recruiting and 'recruiting stars' really do mean a lot.

K state underperfomed this year. With that much talent they should have done better.

Of course if he keeps the talent coming in everything will be ok.

I would agree. I think he did a decent job considering where KState has been but they have some serious talent on that team and they should have dominated some of the games they lost this year. Of course they've been through some stuff and they're all new to everything but I think they would have done a lot better with a better and/or more experienced coach.

As a person who has discredited Frank Martin all year...I will say they looked good tonight (disciplined and driven)...but I'm not going to change my mind on the guy because of 1 Game when his team did underachieve for the season...Floyd even said, with all their talent, they should be the type of team they run into in the sweet 16...but they could only muster an 11 seed despite having the nation's best player and another lottery pick in the line-up, both of which have the bodies of 26 year old NBA veterans already...an 11 seed...

They did finish 3rd in the conference and won some big games. They lost focus and lost some games they shouldn't have but you could say the same thing about a lot of young teams. Beasley didn't do much of anything in the first half and they still took it to USC.

Floyd also said they deserved a lot better seed.

How does everyone feel Coach Gmac would do with K-State's Roster? Can't tell me that talent doesn't make a coach look good/bad. You still have to coach, but if your players don't have the ability to run a play against someone with a heartbeat then its over.

Yeah but losing 5 of the last 7 is something that team never should have done - ever. Great talent, very physical players and a decently favorable schedule should have had them looking much better down the stretch.

Well his underperforming players just upset a 6 seed in the tourny so they performed well enough to advance. I thought he did a fine job coaching and keeping everyone cool when Beasley had foul trouble in the first half. The guy is intense I'll say that for him.

It's tourney time and since my team is at home watching the games just like I am, I will be rooting for the BIG12 and especially enjoy upsets. KSU #11 beating USC #6. Texas A&M #9 upseting BYU #8.
