All the way around. I was told today at work. I do some Daktronic stuff for my job. Looks like I might be doing some more work at JTS.
Maybe we will get timely scores from other games now ... Love when they are showing 2nd qtr scores when you know the game is almost over.

Make sure they remember to design the ribbon board for wind loads.

A few questions.

Were the engineer's estimates public?

Why was this bid out in phases instead of one whole project?

How are certain things able to be contracted without being bid while others need bids?

Bidding out in phases gives Iowa State more control.

Board of Regents can ok things without having to be bid.

There's a whole bunch of good companies that pour concrete. There's not that many that make stadium scale scoreboards and videoboards.

Anybody have a mock up of what the ribbon board would look like in Jack Trice? I can't wait to get rid of those black scoreboards or whatever they are in the corners. This should be a great enhancement.

A few questions.

Were the engineer's estimates public? I find the estimates when the item goes for bid, normally 21 days before the bid is due. It appears there are three more SEZ bids due through 2014.

Why was this bid out in phases instead of one whole project? See the answers from others. Sometimes materials provided by owner do not get marked-up by the contractor. However, I think ISU accepts the risk of having provided defective materials if there is a future problem.

How are certain things able to be contracted without being bid while others need bids?
I wondered about that as well. The financial justification is Daktronics provided the existing NEZ video board and scoreboard/video ribbon in Hilton. The control room is somewhere in Hilton and Daktronics provides technical staff at every event. A new vendor would require a second control room and additional ISU staff to provide content. Imagine the outcry if the NEZ and SEZ didn't provide the same content

Simply conjecture, but I wouldn't be surprised a previous request for bid didn't include the right to negotiate for this additional work.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but why is the control room in Hilton?

Availability of space? More games in Hilton so you might as well be closer to where you're working more often? More of the equipment is there (Hilton has a better AV setup than the Jack at this point, though that gap is narrowing) in the first place, so might as well stay close to it? Location matters little given this is probably all done by screen/two-way voice?

Bigger question is: how have none of our enterprising EE or IT types hacked the feed yet? Can't believe there have been no collection of DanBeebe & FauxPellini tweets, yoga pants slideshows, or dancing CFH videos interrupting normal programming.

I believe it always has been.

Didn't the last Hilton flood have an effect on the first few games at JT because of the the control room being out of commission?

I'm sure it probably has to do with not duplicating equipment and such. There's 6, maybe 7 games at JTS and probably 50+ between all the various sports at Hilton. So when you consider what it takes to put on Cyclones.tv and stuff - it probably makes a lot of sense.
