How crowded is Hickory Park on a Friday?

I waited at Texas Roadhouse in Urbandale for an hour because someone told me it was like Hickory Park, it wasn't. I would wait 3 hours to eat a Hickory Park if I wasn't in Ames very often.

not a fan of HP. Two trips there...lousy food each time.

Well, there could be a couple reasons for that. First might be that you're a Hawk Fan, and as such, have a demonstrable lack of taste and judgement and the meal didn't taste just like the Fastco-brand TV dinners you usually eat.

Second, like you've demonstrated in three out of your four posts here, you acted like an arrogant jerk, and your server and the cook might have neglected your meal. (Though, frankly, most people who work there are ISU fans/students, and ISU fans/students treat people well even if they have a serious character flaw.)

I'd suggest giving Hickory Park another chance.

Ha.

I must say, I've been to Hickory Park I don't know how many times since I've lived in Ames my entire life, and don't think I've ever had bad food there. Don't remember having to send anything back, there's only about 700 people working there on any given night so service is usually pretty good too.

I used to wait tables at HP in college. That place runs pretty smoothly. Lots of people on staff every night. People assigned to just run food, so food come out fairly quick. A table turns over about every 30 seconds in there. It's even more impressive that one guy owns the thing. He has lots of money.
DO NOT! I repeat DO NOT order the Saucy Southerner! Of all the years I worked there . . . I think I ate it once and I claim ignorance.

I live so far away but make a point to go to HP once in the summer and once at X-mas when I am back in Iowa.

I really like Hickory Park, but the wait is brutal. I know you guys will say they move people in and out quick (which they do), but when you have so many people waiting, it is still long. Food is very good for the price.

I like the clean look of the new building, but I kind of miss the old building. It had more character. I like to go there when I get a chance, but the lines kill me. Of course, seems like every restaurant has bad lines nowadays. Don't people cook at home anymore?

That place can hold 400+ people. That tells you how popular it is if the lines are still that big.

I will reiterate, I couldn't care less if they chopped up unsatisfactory kitchen employees and put them in the saucy southerner. As long as it's all marinated in that barbecue goodness I don't care. And all that for $4.75? Sold.

I really liked the "1 bathroom for 300 customers thing" they used to have going on there, in the old building. :skeptical:

People who need to go to the bathroom or wash their hands are wimps, imo....

Just kidding. I used to like the uneven floors and crowded tables of the old place, too. And I learned to go and wash before I left my apartment, too.

Probably those TV dinners are the only thing he can cook without burning down his trailer.

He does seem like an unhappy sort. That almost automatically qualifies him to be a Hawkeye fan. At this rate, he might be the one that takes them to the next level.

I do think HP is better the less often that you have it. I'd get burnt out on it every couple of weeks, but it's pretty damn good if you haven't had it in a few months.

I worked there and in turn ate the food alot. There is so much different stuff on the menu, I rarely got burnt out.

Judging by your post you're like what 15-16 years old? Seriously dude you must really be quite a putz to draw that kind of conclusions from my post. I'm going out on a limb here and guess that you've never had bad meals anywhere. Sounds like you're suffering from little man syndrome. It's posts like yours that is exactly what ISU fans complain about in Iowa fans. I wish you the best of luck.
